And of course Roloson gets lit up the minute he gets in there last night. TB can way bye bye to their playoffs hopes too if Garon's out for any length of time.Exactly. This is a great opportunity for the Sabres, gotta take it and run with it.

I think if Sabres gets the 8th they will be a real challenge to the Rangers.Seems like everything is clicking. Perfect scenario with those two injured, WSH losing and WPG winning games.

Well, having four teams from the same division being in the race with them makes it easier on them. It's also what pretty much assures us a playoff spot.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind Washington against the Devils in round one and leave the Panthers to finish 8th and face the Rangers. I think the Rangers would be surprised at how much of a handful the Panthers will be.

guyincognito
03-07-2012, 11:25
Jets!

They're still only playing at an 88 point clip. I don't think you can win a division doing that. They've also already played 35 games at home and it's night and day with them, they have one of the best home ice advantages in the league. They are for all intents and purposes a Western Conference team and their H/A split looks like one. Only good road team in the West is Vancouver.

In the East that bad road record will kill you.

I think this is the ideal situation, which means it won't happen  I just don't want the Rags or Boston in the 1st round. We would have to slump or other teams would have to go on a run for that to happen.

I'm starting to think we could beat the Rangers in a seven game series. They are regressive and if they get taken out of their game they're not that great.

Problem with drawing them is 1) you'd have to suck pretty hard to draw them and 2) if you do draw them and win, that means you get Boston because of the re-draw.

Dr. Doom
03-07-2012, 11:32
I think the other problem with drawing them in the 1st round is that even if they win the series they are so drained that the next round will be even more difficult.

Devilsfanatic
03-07-2012, 11:39
We can handle anyone in the East save Boston. Steer clear of them and we should see round 2. The key is to try and get as high as possible to avoid them for as long as you can.

The Crosby fueled Penguins could be a problem too. But Philly with Bryzgoalov in net and all that pressure is pretty laughable. Especially with Pronger, Richards and Carter gone.

Like you said, I'm only afraid of Boston in the playoffs. We've been better against them, but we haven't been able to close them out all season. I'm not too worried about the Penguins because we have played well against them the last 3 seasons.

Is Letang still out? Also, as bad as it is, I'd bet that every player in the NHL is going to make Crosby's life a living hell during the playoffs.

Devilsfanatic
03-07-2012, 11:58
I'd be disappointed if they didn't try and hit Crosby. You can't shy away from him, no one did from Lindros, or Roenick and yeah, Letang is still out, if they get him, Crosby a healthy Staal and Malkin they're going to be a force. For all the complaining we do about not having a fully healthy team over the years, Pittsburgh has been much worse IMO. I can't remember the last time Staal, Malkin, Crosby, Letang and Fleury were all in the same game together. Maybe they had one or two this year and the Winter Classic last season. But it's been a nightmare for them.

If we finish as the 6th seed and get the SE winner we would likely draw Rangers in round 2 (unless Boston got upset). That is probably the ideal draw for us. Finish 5 (or 4) you are likely getting the Pittsburgh (with Crosby) and then Boston side of the bracket.

I think jrk said that this Rangers team is like the 07 Devils - a team that relied way too much on its goaltender and got exposed by a more complete team in the playoffs.

As for Boston, you have to go through them, or Pittsburgh eventually. I want to avoid the 7 seed at all costs, but I'd be infinitely more confident against Boston in the 2nd or 3rd round because the team will be playing with more momentum and confidence.

the thing that pisses me off the most from the 1994 series is that had the devils won, they most likely would have won against vancouver in the finals. the devils wouldn't have been such an underdog like they were against the wings and the media wouldn't have been whining and crying about the trap as the reason why they won like they did against the wings. the whole devils image would have been completely different and we, as devils fans, probably wouldn't have had to live through all that **** in the 15 or so years subsequent.

Now it's 3-0 and the Pens don't even have Crosby back yet. They're going to win the Atlantic and there's a huge chance we draw the Rangers in round one as a 4-5 match up. Perhaps we should just let Philly take them. I see the East going:

Pittsburgh
Boston
Washington
New York
Philadelphia
New Jersey
Buffalo
Ottawa

I see 1, 2, 5, 6 moving on. That leaves

I think the Devils have a decent shot if it unfolds the way DF mentions, with them playing the Flyers in the second round. It depends on which Flyers team shows up during the playoffs and how beaten up they are after playing the Rangers in the first round. With Pronger being deceased, all it takes is Bryzgalov to remember that he's sucked a lot during this season for the Devils to put the pressure on them. I don't think the Devils would get past the Bruins or the Pens (with Crosby and if Fleury plays well), but anyone else is fair game.

edit: nevermind, it was Devils vs Pittsburgh in the 2nd round. i agree they probably lose if Crosby is back.

Devilsfanatic
03-11-2012, 11:06
It's the playoffs, and you can never say for certain. But if they end up seven and face Boston at the two, they're out in four, maybe five. That I am certain of, and nobody can tell me otherwise and make me believe it to be true.

Pittsburgh, we've had success against them with a full team on their side, Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Fleury, Staal. So I'm still not 100% sure that they'll beat us, I think the series would be grueling as our top six is as good as any in the league, and with Zajac back, our top 12 might rank among the best.

The wildcards are Henrique and Larsson, how can they stack up in the playoff atmosphere? Henrique I'm not as worried about, because I think he has that "it" factor, but Larsson, he's looked, well, not like the same kid who was there before his injury. I am very comfortable with the Devils D, and Marty's new pads and flair for trying to use more of the butterfly style has left him largely impervious to a stinker.

I can't recall too many in recent memory since he donned the pads, that he has let in one where you say, ah come on Marty, except for MacDonald's goal on Thursday. And, not like game seven against Carolina where he should have had Staal's blast, but that shot has always given him problems as well. A butterfly goalie probably gets that shot, and I think Marty now realizes it too and has been able to adapt, which might keep him as a 1B for another year or two in the NHL.

God, I love considering playoff time again and not thinking Larsson, Huberdeau, Landeskog, RNH. I would rather dream playoff scenarios every year than the top pick. I don't know how the perpetual losers keep thinking about it.

I think the best result for the Devils would be if the Senators pass the Bruins for the division lead and the Bruins stay behind the Devils in 7th (i.e. the Penguins face the Bruins in the second round ... I'm assuming that the Penguins will win the division at this rate). But I agree that the current standings is the second best option for the Devils.

I watched most of that game before I fell asleep. I am a closet Blues fan now, love their make up and style of play. That is a team that could use Parise in a big way :sarcasm:Yep. I was discussing it with my friend (my best friends are Blues, Sabres, Thrashers RIP and Avalanche fans).

They could also use Nash. He knows Hitch and would be a perfect fit.

If he doesn`t change his list during the offseason, he`s an idiot.

Dr. Doom
03-24-2012, 08:39
The Blues don't need Nash. They have a nice team built and great prospects in their system. They just need to sit back and focus on winning games.

Getzo5
03-24-2012, 08:42
They don`t have a game-breaker/changer. No player with PPG potential. Someone who makes a play or scores a goal when the team is struggling offensively.

Berglund, Oshie, Perron or Schwartz/Tarasenko all have the potential, but who knows. Not saying they should be in for him, but they definitely could use him. He`d be a good fit as a player, knows the coach, would fit in a system, wouldn`t be a locker room distraction... and would help them win NOW. Their record is impressive and the team is built for the POs, but I still think they need more.

There is nothing wrong with scoring by committee. It seemed to work for us ;)Post-lockout? Yeah, that`s why we traded for Kovalchuk.

Not saying there`s something wrong with it, but you need those types to win the Cup... or play like the Bruins, but Krejci should`ve gotten more credit for his play, Bergeron too, so it`s not like they didn`t have the material. STL doesn`t have leaders. Backes, as much as I love his play, is a lesser Callahan, he`s not as clutch as him. Berglund has the potential but never really showed consistency. Oshie is a weird case, so is Perron. Pietrangelo strikes me as the leader, but we`re talking offense.

If the price is right, yes, I`d absolutely do it.

Dr. Doom
03-24-2012, 09:10
It works if you are good enough defensively.

Lets say they do trade for Nash, what do they give up to get him?

Getzo5
03-24-2012, 09:28
It works to a certain point, but not further, maybe if you get lucky. See: Montreal Canadiens 2010. STL obviously has a better offense, but they have their struggles and even Habs had Cammaleri to get them through the first two rounds. Let`s see how they do in the postseason first, but I still belive it`s the only missing piece.

As for the price... no idea, but they surely have what it takes. Add an extra pick (their 1st is going to be in mid 20s at best).

Getting Parise would be much easier, but then again, isn`t he just a better Oshie (production-wise)?

I don`t want to get into that really.

With Tarasenko, Schwartz, and Rattie, the Blues should be good at forward for the future. I think Tarasenko is that wildcard. If he comes over and does what everyone is hoping he will, the Blues could be a very dominant team.

I get where you come from and I kinda agree, but you get what I`m saying.

I would rather have Nash. You would have to be stupid to not want him. The problem is what it would take to get him and if he would even want to go to your team.

If St. Louis is after Nash they have to give up some serious stuff and their 1st round pick is pretty useless because it is going to be in the late 1st. If I'm St. Louis I'm starting with Tarasenko/Schwartz + roster player (Perron/Berglund) + 2nd rounder. I think Perron/Berglund would be overshooting it, but the other roster players are either too much or too little.

They are one of those teams that can afford to make the trade...

Ryder makes it 2-0. **** yeah, let`s go Stars.

Howson will decide. You can throw in their first, choose a different roster player. Many options to like.

I know what you and I think doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but I can tell if that is fair or not. To me it seems fair for both sides.

Their first is pretty much a 2nd and their 2nd is pretty much a 3rd

And so on and so on.

Tarasenko is argueably top2 prospect in the world, that counts for something. It`s really up to what they think might help them going forward.

Cammalleri with his typical PP goal from the right circle makes it 2-1.

Good ol' Hank is regressing to the mean a little bit. Not a very good time for that to happen for the Rangers. They look very ordinary.

I can`t believe how lucky they are.

Detroit's D was so terrible against the Rangers I could not believe it. No surprise they are letting in goals en masse right now.And now I have to step in... Two lucky bounces and two goals on the 5on3 PP.

Also, Sens are winning only because of some fantom calls against the Pens.

This goalie sucks. One thing I'll say about the Pens is that their game is skewing too far to the offensive side right now.

i don't want to know what caused you to say this, but what happened in the game?Lucky bounce in front, scrimmage, half empty net, six men around the puck... Horseface with an easy goal.

They`ve been getting those all year, no kidding. How do you think it`s possible to play like crap and winning at such high percentage? Accuracy and effectivity...lol
