The Devils called up right wing Nick Palmieri from Albany of the AHL today.

Palmieri, 22, had one goal and one assist in five games with Albany after being sent down on Nov. 24. He has three goals and three assists in 19 NHL games with the Devils this season.

The Devils will practice at Prudential Center this afternoon before flying to Toronto for their game there Tuesday night.

The Devils have lost their last four games and are 0-3-0 so far on this stretch of four consecutive road games.

Hopefully he is smart enough to find his way to the airport...

Hey, you were scratched in the AHL! So, now you get to play on line one in the NHL! hahaha. I guess it makes sense why he was scratched yesterday though. Should have used it as an opportunity to use twitter to make my BS page seem more legit.

It was also the concluding game of a 3 in 3 for Albany yesterday. But yeah you missed a golden opportunity to be a twittering version of Lou's Janitor or whatever the hell his name was. haha

I'm sure it's just temporary. I haven't followed how he's been doing in Albany since he got sent down, but I doubt he's been lighting the world on fire.

The lines in practice were:

Zubrus-Carter-Clarkson
Boulton-Sesito-Palmieri

Yeah, the old man line has slowed down a bit. No rational fan was expecting Elias to keep up a PPG pace so mixing that line up is a good idea. Hopefully Tedenby can pot a couple - he's due.

And he's playing with so much better set up men. Clarkson never passes the puck and Carter's a 4th line center ideally. Elias and Sykora are creative with the puck. He'll get his chances that he doesn't have to manufacture by himself.

Looks like Sir Claude stopped by today (would love to draft his son btw if these similar traits to his dad thing is for real)

Former Devil Claude Lemieux was at Air Canada Centre this morning to film an interview with MSG Network for Scott Niedermayer’s number retirement ceremony on Dec. 16. Lemieux said he moved to Toronto two years ago, so his son, Brendan, could play a higher level of youth hockey.

Brendan, a 15-year-old left wing, is eligible for the next OHL draft, and apparently plays a bit like his father.

“We’ll find out whether he’s going to go to college,” the 1995 Conn Smythe winner said. “We’re in the process of looking at options. He competes really hard. He’s got a lot of the same qualities that I had and the same problems that I had. But he’s doing well. He controls his emotions probably better than I did.”

Lemieux has two jobs. He runs the North American division of a Switzerland-based player agency, 4Sports and Entertainment, from an office in Toronto, and he is also the chairman of Graf Canada (hockey equipment).

“I’m on the road quite a bit,” he said.

Lemieux won’t be there when Niedermayer’s No. 27 is retired a week from Friday, but he says it’s definitely something Niedermayer deserves.

“It’s not a surprise,” said Lemieux, who played with Niedermayer on the Devils’ 1995 and 2000 Stanley Cup teams. “It’s a great honor, obviously well deserved. He’ll be going in the Hockey Hall of Fame very soon and he’s one of the best of all time.”

Great news about Zajac, but the Josefson news is just as awesome

Hard to believe it's been close to 2 months already with Josefson's injury - So assume he takes the next month to build his strength up and skate, we could see him back by late January early February assuming all goes well

Devils coach Pete DeBoer said he still hasn’t thought much yet about where Zajac will play when he does come back.

“I don’t yet,” DeBoer said. “I’m going to wait and see. I’m imagining we’re going to bring him in slowly. I don’t foresee he’s going to jump in the lineup, whether it’s a week from now, 10 days from now or two weeks from now, and play him 20 minutes. We’ll start him somewhere and where he ends up we’ll see.”

Hopefully nothing is seriously wrong with Greene's foot but if he's out for more then a game or two then please call up one of Urbom or Tao. I don't think I can stand Fraser in the lineup for multiple games. Even if he plays well he's still a stiff with the puck and Greene is one of out best offensive dmen.

brit
12-08-2011, 10:05
Don't like Taormina. I think those 5 points or whatever were just lightning in a bottle. He's small, isn't a particularly good skater and is pretty much useless in the d-zone.

Call up Urbom. Pair him with Volchenkov.

Tallinder - Fayne
Salvador - Larsson
Urbom - Volchenkov

Just replace Sal with Greene when he's good to go.

devilzrule27
12-08-2011, 10:13
I can't argue about your other statements on Tao but his offensive ability is something I don't question. There is no doubt he has puck skills as he's displayed them on multiple levels already. The question is whether he can take the next step defensively or whether we(or anyone else) use him as a situational player. I do think there are area's where his abilities would certainly help our club.

brit
12-08-2011, 10:19
I mostly don't like him because he reminds me of the Maclean "era", no matter how brief. Yeccccch.

I don't know why Noreau didn't hang around for a shot... Seems to be doing fairly well in Switzerland.

Probably took one look at the excess amount of dmen we had and wondered where he fit in. Also probably slightly more money over in Switzerland.

Which I have no doubt he will. I don't even look for that much offense from him. I just want a two-way guy that can also be a rock in the d-zone. He has tools, hopefully he finds the tool box.

Yes, he certainly does. His second call up last year was MUCH better than his first go-round with the team. I like him being a top four guy in Albany though, don't want to mess that up too much.

Devils recalled defensemen Alex Urbom and Matt Taormina.

Greene and Cam on IR as well

Big#D
12-09-2011, 06:49
I think this might be the last we see of Cam. He might stay on IR for the rest of the season, especially if players coming back (Zajac, Josefson) are better than him and the players up like Henrique, Palmieri, and Tedenby are playing well. No need for him with Boulton back and other players who can handle the fighting duties.

Then again, he was actually pretty good in his time on the team and Lou and Pete seem to have an obsession with skilless toughness on the bottom line, so who knows?

Until Zajac gets back I think he definitely should do it. The 4th line guys played 5 minutes last night. Just scratch Palmieri, double shift Kovy or Parise and play Tao as the 7th for the PP.

I doubt Fraser gets waived unless he really blows over the next few games.

I've been pleasantly suprised with Fraser's play considering how poor he was last season and I was afraid him sitting all these games out was not going to benefit him

Maybe he feels more comfortable having played for PDB in the past

Regarding Taormina he has a pretty hard shot and they seemed to find the net in his little time up last season I felt

Because Janssen had left his clothes and shoes in the visiting locker room at MTS Centre and he went directly from the hospital to the airport, all he was wearing when he got on the team plane that night was the gown and the slippers they gave him at the hospital. When his teammates saw he was OK, they welcomed him on board and lightened the mood.

“They all stood up and clapped because I looked like such an idiot, I guess,” Janssen said. “They got up and started laughing. The first thing when I walked on, they were taking pictures of me. It was like, ‘Hey guys. I’m OK.’ And they’re all taking pictures.”

This was kind of talked about a week ago on tv when they first mentioned his grandmother passed away. I'm not surprised, he is very involved in his family and I'm sure he misses them a lot, especially with something like this.

Larsson leaning over should actually mean its more likely Cole gets suspended as opposed to less, by the logic Shanahan was using during preseason. Larsson was already in a vulnerable position when Cole committed to the hit, and did not put himself in that vulnerable position immediately prior to the hit. Therefore the onus was on Cole to avoid hitting him in the head.

I just think there's a clear double standard in this league. If Larsson's some star on Pittsburgh, Washington, New York, or Detroit, Cole is suspended. But because Larsson is a rookie from the Devils - no suspension.

One rule for all teams, not just for the "premier" ones.

We were so up and down all year, but we're 7-8 points away from the Rangers and Boston in the top positions. The top team in the league (Chicago) has 50 points. We're learning to play a new system. It's a different animal for a lot of the guys here. Guys are enjoying it. Look at the flow of the practices compared to past years. It's crazy. It's a totally different kind of team with the enthusiasm guys have playing together. There are a lot of good things, but to be a contender there are a lot of things you need to be better at. I'm sure every team will tell you the same thing.

It's good to hear the optimism coming from Marty and Patty

Yea I've definately been pleased with the enthusiasm and fun this team seems to be having

It's a nice fresh breath of air from the negative comments we were starting to hear from Langs, Pandolfo, Madden, and even Gionta - guys who felt they were entitled or something because they had been with us for so long

Yeah the guys said a lot of positive things about Langenbrunner after he was traded, but it's pretty safe to say that the team is much better off since then. And the team seems a lot looser and playing a lot less stiff.

Your right, the team seems to be having a lot more fun - maybe because there's less pressure on them too.

Josefson skating with the team!

When he gets back:
Parise-Henrique-Kovalchuk
Zubrus-Elias-Sykora
Josefson-Zajac-Clarkson
Tedenby-Carter-Sestito

I know they will probably send Sestito back and keep the terrible two, but still I can dream.

Pretty interesting...for the last 7 or so years we haven't had two decent centers on the team at the same time...

Now Henrique, Zajac, Elias, and Josefson and one most likely will have to move to wing...very good problem to have. Get this defense healthy and all the components should come together in the second half.

Dr. Doom
01-01-2012, 12:29
If we can have a healthy defense I would like to see us play 7 d-men and 11 forwards.

Parise-Henrique-Kovalchuk
Zubrus-Elias-Sykora
Tedenby-Zajac-Clarkson
(double shift)-Josefson-Carter

Tallinder-Fayne
Salvador-Larsson
Volchenkov-Greene
Foster

You could put switch Teddy and Josefson and switch Carter to center on the 4th line. The thought of having a competent 4th line is amazing.

Another possibility is to make a trade and pick up a top d-man at the deadline.

I like the idea of the 7 defenseman 11 forwards, since we basically only play 11 forwards anyway, but I think Tedenby needes to see some AHL time and Josefson's return makes that possible. I'd keep one of Cam or Boulton in the lineup to play with Carter - preferably Boulton for most nights - and move Yayo to the 3rd line.

And I'd use Taormina instead of Foster, but I don't know if DeBoer (and Oates) would agree.

Foster needs to hit the bricks

he has been awful lately

JimEIV
01-01-2012, 14:22
Which is better? A small, mobile defenseman that gets manhandled in the corners or big defenseman that can't skate or play defense? I found the Foster move curious, I would have rather just run with what we had.

I don't think generating offence from the defense should be a priority with how loose this defense has been. 100+ goals allowed in 36 games is a problem that needs to be fixed and it is more of a pressing issue than the pp or the breakouts.

But personally I don't like DeBoer's system. His system creates an inherent lack of forward support to a weak defense. This system would be great with a more talented defense but we don't have that...an my personal opinion is a coach needs to adapt to his roster. It makes no sense whatsoever to generate and extra 20 goals through a more aggressive system all while allowing an extra 20 goals because of an aggressive system.

I understand that we are in a transition, but I don't like the destination.

Clarkson Falls Down

I think that the results are going to look a lot better when our young defensemen mature and our young forwards being to become more well rounded. It's not going to happen overnight, but I like the job DeBoer's done overall.

As for Josefson, I'd put him on Zajac's left wing when he comes back and send Teddy down for some valuable time in the minors - contrary to what some know-it-all tries to spew out.

Dave Barr is responsible for the PK. I don't know how bad it's gotten there, but I've never been overly crazy about PD, I don't tend to like junior coaches (not that I like any coaches) and he doesn't have much of a track record in the NHL. I don't see any use in Tedenby right now either. He isn't needed in the top 6, and he doesn't really add anything to the bottom 6. I'd just send him back to Albany and let him try to win a job in camp next year. They must feel he's learning more with the big boys.

Dr. Doom
01-05-2012, 16:54
You don't see it because they have built the 3rd/4th line like crap. The 3rd line is pretty good, but once you get to the 4th line it is a disaster in a hockey sense. If you look at teams like Boston, who tooled on us last night, their lines are all capable.

Clarkson Falls Down
01-05-2012, 16:57
Yeah the 4th line is just a death pit. All 3 of those guys are useless. Sestito has no use and the only thing that Janssen and Boulton do is fight (and Boulton barely does that) - which I find basically useless anyway. Every shift they get pinned in the defensive zone.

Give me guys who can gave me an honest shift in all 3 zones. Give me a line who actually has the possibility to generate a goal and who can hold up in their own end. None of those 3 can do anything like that.

Give me Zharkov-Carter-Palmieri as a 4th line, Tedenby-Zajac-Clarkson as the 3rd. Also gives you the ability to mix and match with putting Zharkov and Palm in for Tedenby late in games in a defensive role.

Yeah, that felt so stupid. Amazing that they don't build public transportation there. It's not like in the U.S., where you run the risk of being called a socialist and commy as soon as you want to invest in some public transportation.

They did the same thing in Sunrise.

At least the Devils got it right in that the Rock is either on the way or against the grain for most people. Otherwise it would be like putting a building in Morristown or something.

Hopefully it's true and he's just resting. I know he's probably got a bruise on his ankle after taking a misguided Foster shot in the ankle last week.

Yep, unattributed passing comment that they don't *always* stay in 5 star hotels. In idle Parise speculation. They're still carrying a $60M payroll.

My translation is correct. Canadian hockey media strikes again.

Does Edmonton even have a 5 star hotel? Maybe it got demoted to a 4 star hotel because it was in Edmonton. Or a bad breakfast buffet gave someone the shits.

That's so silly. They're so broke that they spend $5,000 (200 x's 25) on hotel rooms instead of $7,500 ($250 x's 25). Yeah, I'm buying that. The sandwiches they get from Hobbys for the charters also now come without bread. Unless you want bread, then you don't get meat. They already don't get tomatoes. Either way.

Tomorrow is Tuesday. Maybe Lou wants to make some space for a trade announcement. Or maybe they're just pretty sure both players will be back tomorrow. Or maybe they just want Palmieri to get into this afternoon's Albany game and then bring him back up tomorrow.

There are a lots of reasons to send him down today.

What will the lineup look like if Henrique is still hurt and Josefson is up? Do the first two lines stay like they were or is the Sykora-Elias-Zubrus line reunited?

Zajac's Bowl Cut
01-16-2012, 08:23
I would think Zubrus stays with the top line

they wouldn't throw JJ on the top line first game back. they'll ease him in like they tried to do with Zajac

Dr. Doom
01-16-2012, 08:27
So we're looking at something like this with Henrique out and Josefson in:

Parise-Zubrus-Kovy
Sykora-Elias-Clarkson
Tedenby-Josefson-Carter
Boulton-Zalewski-Janssen

Not really sure about if Carter would center 3rd line, play wing on 3rd line or just center 4th line.

DeBoer wouldn't say if it was possible that Josefson could get called up after only two games in AHL.

Derp.

He called me arrogant. Then DATW step in and... well, you can imagine. lmao

Am I in the minority for liking DATW?Nope, I don`t think so. I like him too. Kind of. I like his point of view/opinions in general, I just don`t like him as a person. He`s short-sighted and often delusional, likes to generalize, likes to make himself look like a sacrifice lamb when screws up and is not very bright at times.

And I hate when he refuses to see obvious things such as importance of guys like Volchenkov. That`s idiotic no matter how desperately we need a PMDs. Plus he likes to beat dead horses (White) and digging into graves. Being relentless is nice and all, but , no disrespect, at some point obvious agenda quickly becomes annoying. It`s unnecessary. He reminds me of some creepy fanatic who`d do/say anything just to support his own ideas and then, when sees that people disagree, tries to do even more. Never gives up.

So yes, I like his perspective, because he brings something others don`t, but I don`t like the rest.

I am not a fan of Volchenkov either. I think the game has passed players like he and Salvador (White too) by in a way as you can't handle the puck like a grenade anymore without being exposed by a good forecheck. Volchenkov clearly is a warrior...but is what he brings needed as much anymore? I am not feeling it myself.

I think the PP has been incredible strong because of the forwards more than anything this year. Parise & Henrique especially cause the opponents PP to maybe move the puck down low if pressured for fear of giving up a shorty. Interested by this topic I see "In Lou We Trust" has an article a few days old on the Devils PK...
