start it off with some trade news:

The Giants and Mets have agreed on a deal that will send Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez to New York and Angel Pagan to San Francisco, tweets Joel Sherman of the New York Post. The deal is pending physicals, Sherman reports (via Twitter)

Devilsfanatic
12-06-2011, 19:08
Marlins and Pujols are really, really close. I wouldn't be surprised if it's done soon. I think Fielder goes to SEA and the Jays get Earvin Santana when the Angels sign CJ Wilson. Santana is exactly what we need.

Zajac's Bowl Cut
12-06-2011, 19:10
Mets signed Frank Francisco, apparently

the whole Pujols thing is crazy because itll cause a domino effect, most likely

Devilsfanatic
12-06-2011, 19:17
The Mets are stupid. I guess we get two supplemental picks from the Mets. One for Francisco and one for Rauch.

Clarkson Falls Down
12-06-2011, 19:49
Aside from last year, Rauch is halfway decent, Francisco is above average, Ramirez is really good. Pagan and Torres is a wash.

Ken Rosenthal
Buerhle to #Marlins: 4 yrs, $58M. #MLB

Devilsfanatic
12-07-2011, 14:18
And they're still talking to Fielder and Wilson. I'll die laughing if they sign both and then still don't get any attendance (likely). Then they're fucked.

Clarkson Falls Down
12-07-2011, 14:33
And Hanley wants to be traded too. This is all going to flop in their faces in a few years.

Zajac's Bowl Cut
12-07-2011, 14:47
I cannot believe they just gave Buehrle $14.5 million per

that is crazy, and I like Buehrle

Devilsfanatic
12-07-2011, 14:50
And Hanley wants to be traded too. This is all going to flop in their faces in a few years.

Or by this year.

Zajac's Bowl Cut
12-07-2011, 14:52
nah, theyll be a good team. Johnson and Buehrle along with Hanley (if hes there, which i have to believe he will be), Reyes, Stanton, and LoMo is a good team.

guyincognito
12-07-2011, 14:56
Well, it's not like the Mets are going to get in their way. Now there's rumors they want to move Ike Davis. I guess basically they're going to try to dump everyone who actually takes salary to play baseball.

Although this means I can probably go there and wander around on a nice day for $2 (+ parking and tolls... lol) and go raid the concession stands. That place is a pretty great, shame they got saddled with an inept owner, by the time they're good again, it'll be old.

Devilsfanatic
12-07-2011, 15:00
Well, I mean, when they realize that they won't have fans coming anyway they'll trade. Remember when they signed Delgado? They traded him to the Mets by August.

Reyes will be a Yankee by August.

Zajac's Bowl Cut
12-07-2011, 15:04
the yankees should just field a whole team of shortstops

Devilsfanatic
12-07-2011, 15:05
They're the most athletic so realistically, you could do that and put them in any position on the field and they won't hurt you.

Clarkson Falls Down
12-07-2011, 15:15
In a few years I can see Reyes being a Yankee when the Marlins go under, like they always do, and the opt out clause kicks in on Jeter's contract.

Devilsfanatic
12-07-2011, 15:17
He has an opt out clause?

guyincognito
12-07-2011, 15:33
Eh, I think they might do okay in Miami. I mean where they played before is an awful location. Same problems the Panthers have. Putting a sports arena/stadium in a place that is INTO a weekday commute is a big mistake. No one is going to stop off on a commute and no one is going to want to come back after getting home like 30 minutes before the start.

And obvious mass transit isn't an option there, unless you want to fight off psychos and hobos with a stick. I've taken a Dade County bus. It's not for everyone

Devilsfanatic
12-07-2011, 15:40
I think the new park will help. But enough to justify this spree? I'm doubtful.

Clarkson Falls Down

Pujols to LAA apparently

Jersey Man
12-08-2011, 08:32
Can't believe LAA got him. I was reading that they were denying anything about signing him yesterday and then this morning BAM.

devilzrule27
12-08-2011, 08:40
When did the Angels even jump into the Pujols race? I thought it was just the Cards and Marlins and then the Marlins dropped out. I need to pay more attention. haha

Devilsfanatic
12-08-2011, 08:46
Disappointed in Albert's decision. Now he's just a mercenary like the rest. Should have stayed in STL.

devilzrule27
12-08-2011, 08:51
Meh, he brought STL 2 world series. he has every right to go chase money at this point in his career. And with La Russa gone now seems like as good a time as ever to leave.

Devilsfanatic
12-08-2011, 08:55
200M was the offer from STL. Hometown discount is OK in this situation. It's not like they were offering him 150 over 10.

devilzrule27
12-08-2011, 09:07
Why should he leave 50 million on the table? He did a ton for the Cards franchise, if he wanted to move on then so be it. I mean the Cards are going to a be in bit of a transition. La russa is gone, they barely even made the playoffs last year in an awful division, and ownership likely wasn't going to spend much to continue to improve the team. Seems like as good a time as ever to bolt.

Granted its nice to see guys show some loyalty but that for the most part is a thing of the past in sports.

Devilsfanatic
12-08-2011, 09:09
I'd be ticked if Marty did it, even after three cups at the age of 32. But I'm all for loyalty. Anyway, I guess they're in on Fielder now. It's not fun knowing Toronto used to be a place guys want to go, but I'm glad the Jays stayed away. That price is insane and might bite them in the ***. Especially if he's actually 36.

devilzrule27
12-08-2011, 09:12
yeah this could be another vlad guerrero signing for the angels.

Last week I was talking to my brother in law, who is a cardinals fan, and I was saying to him they would be better off going after Prince and just be done with Pujols. He's aging, wanted a ton of money, and a lot of years. Prince is going into his prime and they would be stealing him from a division rival. money better spent in my opinion, long term at least.

Devilsfanatic
12-08-2011, 09:20
Probably. I'd like the Jays to sign Fielder, but honestly, if he wants over a five year term with insane dollars, I'm glad we stay out. If he wants 5/180 or something, just as an example. If he wants an insane term like 8 years, I'm out. The most I can handle with him is 5/150 and even that's a big stretch. I don't know his effectiveness in three years. At 5'10 there's no way you should be 275lbs.

The guy I'm intrigued most with, is Yu Darivsh.

devilzrule27
12-08-2011, 09:25
a 5'10" 275lbs vegan nonetheless. haha something aint right there.

that said at least you know his age is correct.

Devilsfanatic
12-08-2011, 09:31
Well, he recently became a vegan. That was after stuffing his face full of big-macs.

devilzrule27
12-08-2011, 09:52
its been like 3 or 4 years. Has he even lost weight? How can one maintain a weight of 275lbs on a diet of leaves and tomatoes?

Devilsfanatic
12-08-2011, 09:53
Doesn't make much sense. I think he's lying about being a vegan. Look at how skinny Ethan Suplee is now.

Clarkson Falls Down
12-08-2011, 10:28

Devilsfanatic

devilzrule27

I don't follow baseball too closely so this is a question for those of you who do. Will the Baltimore Orioles be good again in the next 5 years? I feel badly for their fans as it was a once proud franchise with many alienated fans now. I grew up a Mets fan but lost interest in baseball after the strike in 94. I have mildly adopted the Orioles and wonder what you all think if there is any near term hope for them.

Devilsfanatic
03-02-2012, 12:56
Yeah, it's dumb. A one game playoff isn't good. I would have preferred adding two more teams in each league and let another series happen. Or at least, make it a best of three.

AL East: Yankees
AL West: Rangers
AL Central: Tigers
Wild Card 1: Anaheim
Wild Card 2: Boston, Tampa Bay, Toronto, Minnesota battle it out for that spot.

At least, that's the way I see it playing out in the AL.

NL East: Philadelphia
NL West: San Francisco
NL Central: Cincinnati
Wild Card 1: Miami
Wild Card 2: Washington, Atlanta, St. Louis, Dodgers battle it out for that spot

3B: Lawrie
SS: Castro
LF: Morrison
CF: McCutchen
RF: Stanton
C: Posey

SP: Felix Hernandez
SP: Strasburg
SP: Kershaw
SP: Latos
SP: Matt Moore

RP: Jonny Venters
RP: Henry Rodriguez
RP: Aroldis Chapman
RP: Drew Storen
RP: Kenley Jansen
RP: Eduardo Sanchez
CP: Craig Kimbrel

BN: Rasmus
BN: Andrus
BN: Freeman
BN: Wieters
BN: Desmond Jennings

I know, I left out Kemp and Braun, but that was intentional. Other than Pedroia and Venters, I wanted to keep it 25 and under.

Off they are going to go with 2 wild card format the wild card series should be a best of 2, with a split going to the higher wild card (meaning the better wc card team only has to win 1 games, the 2nd wild card team has to win both). It would further add meaning to which wild card you win.

Mets have a real chance to be halfway decent if they stay healthy.

The Metsies baby

And I'm already getting the same Met fans who couldn't be more negative about the team ~1 week ago now being the guys leading the front of the parade. Please.

So Ozzie Gullien, who manages a team that pays in Little Havana, said he loved Castro in a Time Magazine article. This is going to go over well. :sarcasm:

The Big Lebowski makes it 4-0 Mets with a two-out, two-run moonshot into right center.

Niese on the mound dealing.

This is my fantasy team I drafted today:

Posey
Fielder
Johnson
Longoria
Bonafacio
Holliday
Jones
Rasmus
Mauer
Ortiz
Trumbo
Escobar
Ibanez
Harper

Sabathia
Romero
Moore
Feliz
Chapman
Bard
Clippard
Downs
Alvarez

I took a lot of guys listed as RP even though they're SP. Moore, Feliz, Bard all fit that bill.

I took Harper because I didn't want to fight for him later, he'll just stay on the bench.
