For a guy who has played on awful teams before, Alexei Ponikarovsky's +39 for his career is impressive. He brings size, skill and defensive awareness to the bottom six. Gonna be interesting to see how he fits here.

I don't like our chances against PHI however.

Devilsfanatic
01-21-2012, 07:45
Teddy isn't a scratch anymore either, he's been demoted to the AHL where I think he should have been to start the year.

Devilsfanatic
01-21-2012, 07:53
I don't think he'll be dealt. But playing 20 minutes in the A, in all situations can only help him.. I'm sorry, but when you're a 21 year old and you've only got five points and a -15 rating, you have to go. He is a better player than that, and will show it in the AHL and be back here. He's so young, it's easy to forget.

I hate when everyone forgets how young he is and says that he is a bust. He is 21 years old. Young players aren't consistent. That is what playing in the NHL is all about.

He's definitely not a bust.....just inexperienced. It will come, but he has to want it. He doesn't seem the type to sulk down there, but who really knows?

From how he has handled everything in the past he seems like he is a very hard worker and doesn't sulk. Hopefully it can be similar to what happened with Henrique.

That fourth line is not as putrid as it could be.

Also, lol that they gave Poni that dreaded 12.

But it could also be better, which I don't understand. I like role players and I understand why they are needed, but they don't even fill the role.

It'll have to do. One of those souls isn't gonna be around when Travis returns. In my estimation it will probably be Mills who is gone.

Yep, that's what annoys me. He isn't 27. He's still very young and has room to grow. I dunno why people assume that he's trade bait, a bust, etc. Way too early for stuff like that.

I assume he's trade bait because he's a valuable asset who I believe to be more expendable than most of our other valuable assets.

Dr. Doom
01-21-2012, 08:37
It doesn't make sense to trade away our future. We aren't a huge contender and stacking up doesn't make sense. Beyond popular belief this team in in the middle of "rebuilding" or whatever the hell you want to call it.

They're attempting to rebuild on the fly, depends on what players we can bring in and how many assets they consider expendable.

You need to win to win more. Teams that get stuck in cycles of losing end up staying stuck in them for a long, long time. Even if we just compete in a playoff round, that could convince a guy like Parise that it's worth spending the prime of his career betting he can win here, where losing might convince him otherwise. Don't underestimate the importance of simply competing with the best. Only rarely do teams go from out of the playoffs one year to championship caliber a season later. If you give up on this season, you're essentially giving up on next season too.

Dr. Doom
01-21-2012, 08:56
All I'm saying is if you trade Tedenby for lets say some sort of high end rental, which may not even be available, you run the risk of making an even worse impact on the future. Who are the only guys left, Suter or Weber? So you trade for them with whatever package including Tedenby and most likely more prospects and picks, whatever. Then what happens when Suter/Weber ask for a crap ton of money and Parise wants to leave. So at the end of the season it is possible to lose what you gave up in the trade and all of your assets. For what? A chance to win a playoff round? I feel like that is horrible asset management.

Are you thinking of Mills?

Zalewski has 0 of Albany's 160 fights over this season and last.

Zharkov and Urbom each had one fight last season.

PP was at 20% of the last little while, and not giving up SHGs. It's not so bad. Last I saw from Tao's update, Taormina lead the team in ice time with Foster second. Missing who we're missing, we're playing guys out of necessity. If they were all there and Foster was still leading, then I'd scratch my head.

LOL. I like Clarky, but I don't understand his role on the PP outside of him having a big body. He isn't a center, which hurts in the circle as they don't have 1 center out there on the top unit. Parise is a better in front of the net deflections, rebound player. Clarkson doesn't have great hand, which is need on the PP where the opponent is just looking to clear the zone.

And for Foster, everything has been said.

Missing who we're missing, we're playing guys out of necessity. If they were all there and Foster was still leading, then I'd scratch my head.

Do you remember what happened with Elias on the point for three straight games? They were scored on SHG every time.

They shouldn't be leading the D in ice time. In no universe they should. There are still 4 defensemen who are better than them - easily. Foster's play is still leading to chances SH regardless if they're going in or not.

There's no justification to have Foster with so many minutes.

Foster's lack of mobility is amazing. How did he make it this far? His shot isn't even a weapon since he barely uses it and misses the net most times when he does.

Well, you want offense in this game. Volch, Sal certainly aren't going to bring it. Fayne was invisible, but PDB usually loves him, so I've gotta believe there's something going on with him. Larsson sat a lot too. I can't imagine those guys not getting hefty minutes without justification. I mean, Larsson is probably burtn right out after starting the season so high. Despite what that bag Trottier says on HF, you have to watch minutes for these guys. It's like keeping an innings count for a young starter in the major leagues.

Foster is a #6, playing way too many minutes right now, and I have to believe injuries are a big part of that. I bet we see at least Urbom and Corrente (provided his injury heals) up in the next week or so.

There, he was 3rd. 18 minutes isn't all that much for a D-man, especially with all that PP time they had. There had to be a reason Fayne was missing this game, it wouldn't be just cause.

I have no idea what this idea of "Tallinder was struggling" is coming from.

Rangers score with 3 secs left in OT. The luck of that team.

Ew, bad night, that just got me into such bad mood.

Yeah, I didn't really have a problem with Tallinder at all. Gonna miss the guy, I always like his personality.

Also, big ups to Ponikarovsky. Big hit, good defensively and got the only goal. Now if we can just get Zajac back and healthy and acquire a Travis Moen or someone, we'll be good.

Flyers had 4 SOG before he called the timeout.

Have to be good to be lucky, and they are good. I'm a real big fan of what the NYR are doing. They're going to be a force this year, like as not.

I hate the guy, but he's a great coach. Another sign of the NYI's ineptitude.

More like Mike Milbury's ineptitude as that was under his watch

Just another one of the things he did. What a disaster of a human being, hockey wise.

He's a fucking fool I can't stand the guy - how one of the worst GM's in sports history got a TV analyst job is beyond me

How can anybody take a guy who has made as many moves as he that backfired and set a franchise back even worse than it already was, seriously? lol

Him and Craig Button. Just fools.

Regular season losses usually don't get me upset at all anymore, but this one really pissed me off for some reason. Maybe because it was the Flyers, maybe it was because they were shorthanded, maybe because they need to start beating good teams.

Hopefully tomorrow makes up for it 100 times over.

Oh and Briere has a concussion. I wonder who gave it to him.

Some Flyers beat writer, or former beat writer, says Elias punched him twice in the face after the game lol. Like that's going to give that Paul McCartney looking reject a concussion. Unless he has a soft head.

Yeah, that's ridiculous. Maybe when Volch decked him lol.

Of course, I had a bunch of Flyers fans jump on me for saying he had the punches coming. They think I meant he had the concussion coming. Which I clearly specified that he didn't. Of course, they're all a bunch of hicks, so, they probably can't read.

Got home at 10:30 because of the weather, never saw this, never will. PK starting to get scored on is troubling, they will not win very many games if that continues.

wonder how long kurtis foster lasts. pete made a comment about the bottom six sucking and they got him a forward. maybe if he complains about foster he'll be traded

kurtis foster IS who lou acquired when deboer complained about the back end not being able to move the puck, i'm sure. what do you think the chances are lou will get anything more than another depth d-man to fill the bottom pairing?

Obviously without giving up something significant we aren't getting anything of value back. Puck moving offensive oriented defensemen are as coveted as it gets these days and I don't see an over abundance of prospects for us to get one without giving up something significant from the current roster.

I said all of that without saying Parise....oh...damn it!

Seriously, we either promote a prospect who performs the tasks we need or keep looking for retreads hoping we catch lightening in a bottle. Tao needs to take Foster's PP time at this point or even see what Larsson can do with a bit more ice time. I am an outright Fayne lover but he is a second PP unit type of player at best at this point of his career and he isn't being projected to be anything great offensively. The Devils might as well try out our other players and Tao is next up in my book.
