Big Devils trade news broken by TG:

Also, for those who have asked about the conditional 2012 pick that was part of Tony Romano-Ben Walter 2009 trade with Isles, [Islanders] keep it. The Devils were supposed to get the conditional 7th round pick from Isles. Conditions were not met. Islanders keep the pick.
https://twitter.com/#!/TGfireandice

Now the bigger question is who the f asked about this? Who would even remember this trade.

Also TG screwed up originally. Isles keep the pick no the Devils

I was actually thinking about this the other day. Although I didn't ask TG about cause I just assumed we didn't meet the conditions given that Romano hasn't done anything with his career.

True, we don't need him and need defensive help more. Brown is a beast though, and would look disgusting on a line with Parise and Henrique.

Do you think the Sens make a run at a goalie or stand pat with Lehner and Auld?

devilzrule27
02-24-2012, 08:25
They have two games this weekend and I would be shocked if Lehner doesn't start both an they go from there. If they do pull the trigger on a goalie I'm thinking it would be for someone like Garon or Sanford.

ILikeItVeryMuch
02-24-2012, 08:30
I dont know if you can trust Auld and company but the asking price for a goalie is way too high.

I think the Sens make the playoffs and should just cross their fingers for one of those unknown runs goalies are known to go on in the playoffs.

Zajac's Bowl Cut
02-24-2012, 08:31
well, Anderson is only going to be miss like a month, so I would think as long as they can stay in the playoffs (which looks to be a lock given how the teams below them are playing) they should be OK

i could see them go after someone though

who fed everyone over there lunatic pills? clarkson and fayne??? this team NEEDS a defensive upgrade and could use to get tougher. trading away one of our best defensemen and one of our toughest players for brown makes 0 sense.

Devilsfanatic

I'd trade Fayne no problem, for a better defenseman, not for Dustin fucking Brown.

Dr. Doom
02-24-2012, 09:52
Brown is pretty tough, but Clarkson won't be traded. Only players I can realistically see traded are prospects like Tedenby, Josefson, Merrill, Palmieri, and Gelinas.

onefatsurfer
02-24-2012, 09:57
Same, and of those, I would not trade Josefson or Merrill. I'd prefer to trade Palmieri and/or Tedenby if it's for Brown.

Dr. Doom
02-24-2012, 09:59
My only feeling on it is that there isn't really room for another top 6 forward on this team.

We would have to do something like Tedenby + Gelinas + 1st to get Brown and I don't think it would really be worth it.

There are only two players on the Devils that I wouldn't trade - Elias and Brodeur. All the rest of them I'd trade in a heartbeat if it meant making the team better in the short run and the long run.

Trading Clarkson or Fayne for Dustin Brown does not accomplish that.

6/7/7.8/6 between Lundqvist/Gaborik/Nash/Richards

26.8M for four players, then you have Drury and Redden at 6 and 6.5, so that's 39.6 on six players. In the summer those guys will count. Getting Nash eventually puts them out of the Parise sweeps.

They bought out Drury. So his buyout hit (1.666) is already on the cap full time.

Devilsfanatic

Well, Redden's 6.5 is still there, they'll probably get an amnesty buy out for him though.

Big#D
02-25-2012, 12:34
I can't see there being another amnesty buyout unless there's another significant rollback in the salaries under the next CBA. That's the only reason there was one last time. I think there'll be more teams against rollbacks to screw over teams like the Rangers and Montreal than there will be ones for it.

Rick Nash is a good man, I don't blame him for wanting out of C-Bus though.

I don't blame either side for wanting to separate. I've maintained that Nash is not a guy you build around. And as far as Nash goes he deserves to play on a team that will actually try to win hockey games. Not to mention I think Nash was part of that "lazy country club attitude" that Prospal was talking about a month into the season. At least that was the talk coming out of Columbus. Anyway it's best to split. They just need to get the return that they deserve for him. None of this **** that the rangers are offering. I'm burkie up in Toronto will be willing to overpay. We'll even throw in Mason!

Kassian is a very good player and will be a great fit in Vancouver, might surprise a lot of people. That kind of pisses me off cause I despise Vancouver. I'm assuming that they are depth incase of injury. I don't see how they are on their current team as they aren't an upgrade.

The deadline was a joke because of the current playoff race. If there were a shitload of trades it would be entertaining. I agree that the length of coverage is too much. They should start at 10 and end at 4 (depending on circumstances).

jkrdevil
02-27-2012, 15:31
Starting at 8am is overkill anyways because there is never a deal before 10. Anyways it not only depends on how many sellers there are, but who the sellers are. This year only Columbus had big pieces to sell and they moved one over the weekend.

The trade deadline is also a casualty of the salary cap. As teams make contract mistakes they have less & less room to take on additional salary without the other team taking considerable salary back.

I think it's also because sellers realize that you can still get draft compensation (or maybe more) in June, instead of panic selling during the season. Not only that, but it's easier to make a big trade that benefits both teams now, in June or July when the cap is more open.

Which is why it was probably key they kept him through the deadline. Now they can go to him and basically say expand your list or we aren't moving you and you are stuck here until 2018 and be able to back it up a bit. I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't dealt at the draft either and he was traded closer to training camp.

IMO, around the draft will be the best so they can get an extra 1st round pick and know where it is. It will help their rebuild a lot. I think a trade with the Ducks would be great for everyone. Nash would be going to a well built team, the Ducks need experienced forward help because of Selanne and Koivu. Columbus would get a pretty high draft pick and a combo of Palmieri/Etem/Smith-Pelley, Schultz, John Gibson. Maybe they can get Sbisa.

They were much further away then you think. There is a huge work ethic problem in Columbus. It was the first thing Prospal noticed when he got there and publicly called out his teammates. He compared the teams mindset to a country club. Players like Vermette were at the heart of that. That guy was as lazy as they come. Word around the team is that Nash was part of that problem as were others. A blow up was needed.

He was the only reason they even have one post season appearance. What set the team back was it's inability to draft, awful coaching, **** poor front office hires, and it's inability to assemble a roster.
