Don`t get me started on Sykora.

Both of them have been the worst Devils over the past 10 games.

You would think after that 14 shot Islander game they'd learn that they aren't beating anyone with that kind of shot total. 10 shots is not good enough. Too many guys trying to set up goals of the year. For example, I can't remember the last time Henrique passed up a pass instead to shoot.

VaxjoDevil

Perhaps, but they won the nine games preceding Crosby's comeback.

Clarkson Falls Down
03-17-2012, 12:27
They've been too up and down. The only thing they should be worried about at this point is staying in the top 6, but most importantly playing at a high level going into the playoffs.

They still have time to get on a roll, but the need to be on top of their game every night, not when they feel like it.

VaxjoDevil

Wow, there's alot of bitching there. What do they think this team is? Granted that's just a bad performance but at the same time the other team has run off 11 in a row. The Pens are a solid cup contender when they have everyone on the ice. We are a team that for the most part, should be happy to be there once the playoffs start. I hope that's not how they play, but it is what they are.

Eh, whatever, if they can't appreciate this season for what it is, I have a feeling they're going to learn that they should have down the road.

I think the difference between this place and the other place is that when a game like that ends, its over, there's not a lot of bitching and life goes on. Over there, they'll be bitching about this game into the wee hours of the night and then into tomorrow. Just let it go already. The coach doesn't have to be fired, not everyone sucks, we're not missing the playoffs, the world isn't ending.

vonbonds
03-17-2012, 16:55
I actually get that type of attitude at the beginning of the season as everyone is trying to figure out what type of team it will be. At this point in the season though what is left to say? I missed the entire game but let me guess, the Devils looked outclassed for most of it against a better opponent? Shocking.

VaxjoDevil
03-17-2012, 18:10
I say lets get that 6th seed, get Florida or Washington and advance for second round, if we do that there will be some nice cash coming in which might solve our financial problems a bit. Then this season is quite a success already.

I thought the goal at the beginning of the season was to make the playoffs. At least it was for me, looking at the roster, and that wasn't even factoring in Zajac missing essentially the whole season. We're going to make the playoffs, might win a round with a favourable match-up, that's pretty good all things considered. I really don't know why some people have delusions of grandeur with this team. Maybe it was that little hot streak after the all-star game? (was that because our star players weren't invited?) Or do people forget that without the shootout wins we would be fighting for a playoff spot right now? Whatever it is, and I hate to say it, when I see an embarrassing loss I'm almost looking forward to reading the retardation that some people come up with. Fire DeBoer! Bench Brodeur! Fire DeBoer again!

VaxjoDevil
03-17-2012, 18:26
Yeah, the fact that we are pretty safely in the playoffs with 10 plus games to go makes this season already better than most could imagine.

None of them learned anything from last year. Just be happy you're around and you'll be in. If they didn't tie in this grand delusion of getting say, 73 points out of a possible 82, would any of them actually have watched? Would winning virtually meaningless games have held any value? When they actually lost a couple of games last year in the second half, they got booed off the ice.

I don't think so, because I remember doing like 12 GDT's last year.

Every team has fans that aren't in tune to what's going on around them, there seems to be alot of them assembling over there. The Devils really aren't that great, they're better than they were a couple of months ago, just on getting a competent 3rd line and getting Zids, but against Pittsburgh or Boston with their **** together, are they winning that series? **** no. So there's no real positive end game short of "well, let's hope everyone good gets eliminated around us."

Florida would be a favorable matchup and even then, I think it could be a total grind, and if their top line got hot, it could still be a problem.

Clarkson Falls Down
03-17-2012, 18:44
Yeah, going into the season I thought the playoffs would have been a nice accomplishment, but the roster has gotten a lot better (Henrique, Zid, Poni, better 4th line, an improved Kovalchuk) and some teams that we thought would be a lot better in the East (Washington, Tampa, Buffalo) haven't lived up to expectations.

Now I really do think the team can win a round, maybe two - if they get the right matchups and are playing well going in.

But I just don't understand where the outrage is over each and every loss over there. They are pretty much in and aren't going to go higher than 5 and lower than 7. So other than officially solidifying their spot and playing well going in, there's not much to play for.

That's what I don't like - they look like they have nothing to play for and know it - complacency will kill you this time of year. It's not like in 3 weeks they can just flip a switch to "play for something" mode. They look like they're trying in the offensive zone - too goddamned hard, they're getting cute always looking for the perfect play or just gliding with the puck. It's not good.

They better snap out of this **** on Monday.

The motivation cuts both ways. Flyers played like rancid *** against us here, and we returned the favor. It's just THAT time of year. Look at the Rangers, they're stuck in a huge *** lull, Boston too. Boston is not that bad, no way. It's not so much turning a switch as it is sometimes the other team just wants it more, and like I said, this time of the year it's going to vary night by night.

They are not killers where they can just show up and win any given game, just because.

No they are not, but there is some bi-polar behavior going on that shows me we are not going very far in the playoffs

Since the ASG what are we? 8-1-1, then 0-4, then a 4-0 and now in the midst of a 1-4 where we didn't score a real goal in that 1.

Not cool.

guyincognito
03-17-2012, 19:22
I also think offensively we thrive on chaos, and this time of year the chaos just isn't going to be there as much. You look at the Kovy goal against the Flyers, that's patented Devils hockey, 4 on 4 with everyone running around like chickens with their heads cut off.

We do it so often that we understand it. They didn't and fell apart and gave Kovy that chance.

In a sense we're lucky the goaltending level has gone through the roof because our offense is just fits and starts right now, teams are trying to make the playoffs and they're not going to engage you in a clusterfuck just because that's your style.

03-17-2012, 19:28
Boston slept through their last game against us last season, and went on to win the cup. I don't see a huge problem in them not being 100% motivated every game. Hell, I even want DeBoer to spare some of our top forwards on the PK if the game clearly is lost or won. Let's not get the bodies beaten up unnecessarily. They got some rest during the All Star, and look what that did.

Their record right now is perfectly fine for this month for the # of games they've played (10 in 17) and the schedule remaining. They should be scoring more, but **** happens. Game before they were perfectly fine offensively and hung with a team that can outskate them (until the Avs got tired in the 3rd), but they couldn't get anything by Jiggy, who played well.

I think there's just kind of a mass hysteria going on. I think if I posted their trends and their record this month over there in a 10 in 17, people would be floored.

Don't understand the mass hysteria anyway to begin with, because they're not good enough to warrant it in the first place.

I'm sure there's insane hysteria going on and yeah it's gonna be stupid. I just don't like the trends I've seen in the last week or so. Overskating pucks, not winning battles and worse - not shooting the puck - the shot numbers down are for a reason, they pass pass pass and then when they shoot - oh theres a guy waiting to block it. I'm glad this is happening now b/c there's sufficient time to correct it. However that should've been fixed by now.

A big win in the Gahden on Monday will do wonders.

And he can't even crawl yet but soon as he starts standing up, boom skates.

Get those double blade skates for him. They might be hard to find but they are great for getting little kids used to the ice. Then once they have the strength to stand on their own you can throw regular skates on him.

Most of my adult life the Pens have been very good. I am tired of it and hope they don't get the next generational talent on their team when Crosby and Malkin are done.
