You can look at it two ways:

1) First round bye
2) framing our greatest failure yet.

I choose to be confident until we get a 3 spot thrown up on us in the 1st of Game 1

I'd love to get out of FLA at 1-1 at least. they gave us a rough go during the regular season, but we didn't have zajac then and the team is hot, so who knows.

Devilsfanatic
04-07-2012, 21:48
yeah, that's true. We never played them with Zajac in the line up. Hell, none of the teams got to see a full Zajac to this point either. I really wish the son of Josef didn't get hurt.

Vinnie
04-07-2012, 21:49
A sweep would be great but I'm expecting at least one Marty stinker.

Dr. Doom
04-07-2012, 21:51
I'm going to continue this in the Devils/Panthers thread before we go too far.

Dr. Doom
04-07-2012, 21:56
We are nowhere near the team we were when we played the Panther last. You could say the same for them, but I feel like our changes are very drastic. Zajac is healthy and he is only going to continue to get more time as his conditioning increases. This means more PP time and adding him in Josefson's place to our already record setting PK. Then you add Zidlicky who is starting to fit on the PP. He also helps the defense with their overall speed. IMO if you shut down Florida's 1st line they are done.

Also, we are arguably the hottest team in the NHL and they are arguably the coldest team in the NHL.

Devilsfanatic
04-07-2012, 21:57
I think your forwards have to key in on the two defenseman who jump in all the time.

And they have to be careful not to lose anyone to a Garrison slapshot.

Dr. Doom
04-07-2012, 22:00
I think your forwards have to key in on the two defenseman who jump in all the time.

And they have to be careful not to lose anyone to a Garrison slapshot.
We have to make sure to take advantage of their d-men jumping in. Guys with speed like Kovy, Zach, and Henrique should be able to generate nice chances off those opportunities.

Devilsfanatic
04-07-2012, 22:03
No cherry picking for Kovy though.

Dr. Doom
04-07-2012, 22:17
The key player in this series is Kovy. If he is on, Florida has no chance. If his game is off it could be a lot closer than I would like it to be.

Devilsfanatic
04-07-2012, 22:25
He has to prove himself. So does Zach. If they can't get THIS done, I mean, it's a gift. Then we've built with the wrong two.

Dr. Doom
04-07-2012, 22:29
I was going to say Zach too, but I chose Kovy because of the PP. He means so much to the PP and if he isn't on, the PP suffers a lot.

This is big for Zach. I don't know what happens if he doesn't get it done in this series.

Lord Ned Stark
04-07-2012, 22:32

Not necessarily. I remember last year or the year before Detroit having to wait until Friday. It is to fit in for Tv though because of the central eastern time zone teams in the western conference

I recall Washington having to wait. They did it this way because the Devs would either have two days off or have to play back to back. Pru is filled on the Monday.

I haven't been to HF since yesterday, but I can relate with people wanting to save cash.

At least their being responsible, I cannot stand the ones who make paltry offers for tickets, or worse the ones on that f'n FB group, "Hai guiz any dirt cheap ticket tonight?" "Sure, here's a pair of upper deck center ice tickets, at cost" "Hmm how about [half of what i just asked]" "How bout no"

It's like they want a fucking hand out. That's the 2nd cheapest ticket in the building, if you can't afford that or are too cheap too, maybe you should re-think things like spending 50 bucks on a hockey game isn't the brightest idea.

Sadly Games 3 and 4 won't sell out. Anyone who thinks they will either works for the Devils or is drinking some hard core kool aid. On StubHub alone there's almost 2,000 tickets left. Who know what's on TicketMaster or TicketExchange and who knows how many the Devilis are holding back. They'll sell them. Or if they don't sell them, they already "bought" them, thus the beauty in this.

There's a couple of problem areas in the building, where if they set the prices right, their attendance would have been higher and they would have sold out more games. Well, here's a situation where they can control secondary market pricing with primary market tickets.

You wouldn't do this in the regular season, except maybe for a big, big game, but to avoid embarassment, you do it in the playoffs.

I am with Krinkle. It is a bad sign for a team with the history the Devils have in the past 18-20 years to not be able to sell out an arena for a playoff game. Sell outs aren't just for bragging rights, it is a sign of a healthy team with respect to ticket prices and fan base.

Why, it's been on the team and management the entire time. They cost themselves about 500-750 average attendance a night with dumb things they did this year and they followed up on it for the playoffs.

And I mean REALLY dumb things that a 10 year old could tell you were a poor idea. The guy who posts on HF, I appreciate his enthusiasm for the job, but logic goes out the window early and often.

It is what it is, if people don't pay $60 or so to sit in the upper corners by the $10 seats, whose fault is that? Let the team buy them from themselves and then put them out there at a price that is acceptable.

It's better from what I can tell (I moved from NJ during the lockout), but it doesn't get rid of the regional politics, which was strong in the past and still exist.

And as you mentioned Lou and the Devils didn't manage the brand well in the 90s, especially coming off the Herb Brooks disaster who was popular with the press.

And that is why I left for Maryland, it was cheaper than NJ. I was 14 too in 1995 and swore I would get season tickets...oh well.

For me my job is kinda keeping me here. Not much need for a Wall Street networking engineer outside of Wall Street

I've worked financial services for over 10 years, a lot of my money goes to housing and cost of living, but luckily I do alright enough to have a good chunk left over. Any other sector I'd probably be gone too.

Since I go to Sweden so often, and with the dollar value now, NJ still seems cheap  Subway in Stockholm is like 10 bucks. Haircut? $100 Only thing cheaper than here is...going to hockey. The irony.

And Montreal. ****, that city is expensive as hell.

I had a chance to stay going from a dot com to a Wall Street firm. I hated working in NYC and wanted a more rural feel. I have found a little slice of heaven here in the Wedge (PA, DE and MD border). No regrets really other than not being local to the Devs.

If Zillow is right then where I grew up in Middletown ironically the cost of living has equalized a ton. I haven't saved much which means I didn't move far enough away..lol.

The fans I'm talking about are the youngsters who enjoyed the 1995, 2000, 2003 years. The ones who were 11, 16, 19 at the time of those namely, me. None of us are working full time, well, most of us aren't just yet. Those who are, are probably getting tickets.

Then there's also a HUGE flux of Devils fans who don't reside in NJ. And of that there are a ton, every arena I've been to there have been thousands and none of them have been from NJ. It's a shame our fan base is so big, yet, it's just not in NJ.
There are people like me and LNS who were 5, 10, and 13 during those years. We are about to graduate college and hopefully have a job. I don't see a situation where I'm in NJ, have a job, and don't have season tickets. I guess if I lived in south Jersey it could be difficult to get to games, but I'd probably get a partial plan and go to ever weekend game.

obviously, the panthers are a far superior team in defense and goaltending, and the devils' edge in offense is only slight.

The Devils, as a team, allowed 10% fewer goals than the Panthers, in a much tougher division. What else is there to say?

The Devils fucking OWN Theodore. Brodeur has been on fire since the ASG.

All the stats point to Devils winning, but none of the Panthers fans want to admit that there is a large chance that their team will lose. I don't think a single Panthers fan in there has said that they will probably lose the series. All of them seem to think that the Devils will lose.

I'm also totally of mind to NOT have Kovalchuk go the full two on the PP.

Dr. Doom
04-11-2012, 09:07
I'd prefer he doesn't go the full 2 min, but PP's are scarce in the playoffs. If you get one PP a game you have to score.

I just don't want him double shifting on the 4th line.

over the 2nd half the PP got better and the PK stayed solid, i'm not too worried about special teams.

Kovy being out the full two isn't awful considering he basically just stands on the point waiting for an opening. and we don't really have any other big shots like his.

Dr. Doom
04-11-2012, 10:10
You know when you get old in life, things get taken from you.
That's, that's part of life.
But, you only learn that when you start losing stuff.
You find out that life is just a game of inches.
So is hockey.
Because in either game, life or hockey, the margin for error is so small.
I mean, one half step too late or to early, you don't quite make it.
One half second too slow or too fast, and you don't quite score.
The inches we need are everywhere around us.
They are in ever break of the game, every minute, every second.

On this team, we fight for that inch.
On this team, we tear ourselves, and everyone around us to pieces for that inch.
We CLAW with our finger nails for that inch.
Cause we know when we add up all those inches, that's going to make the fucking difference between WINNING and LOSING, between LIVING and DYING.

I'll tell you this.
In any fight, it is the guy who is willing to die who is going to win that inch.
And I know if I am going to have any life anymore it is because, I am still willing to fight, and die for that inch.
Because that is what LIVING is.
The six inches in front of your face.
So ready.
