Defense was definitely something the Ducks needed to focus on but I would have like to see them take at least one more forward.

Ducks Select Irvine Native Kerdiles with 36th Overall Pick at 2012 NHL Draft

Anaheim opened its second day at the 2012 NHL Draft by selecting left wing Nicolas Kerdiles with the 36th overall selection.

While born in Lewisville, Texas, Kerdiles is a local product who now calls Irvine home. The 6-2, 207-pound forward has committed to playing at the University of Wisconsin in the fall.

In 2011-12, he led the U.S. National Under-18 squad with 42 points (20-22--42) in 50 games. His seven power-play goals also paced the team, while he ranked second with four game-winners. He finished the 2010-11 season in a three-way tie for second on U.S. Under-17 team with 20 points (12-8--20) in 32 games.

Ducks Draft Pick Cooper Gets High Marks On, Off the Ice

There is very little mystery in what defenseman Brian Cooper is all about.

"Brian's a gamer," a longtime NHL scout said of the Fargo Force blueliner. "Brian's a no-nonsense, game-on-the-line, all-out every shift, antagonistic player. He plays with an edge for his size, but with his speed, puck skills, gamesmanship and hockey sense, he's just got it all. He just wants it so bad."

But that's not all. The intellect that makes Cooper a student of the game helps him excel in the classroom.
