Goaltender Jonathan Bernier expects the Los Angeles Kings to meet his trade demand before training camp.
Bernier, in an interview with TVA Sports, said he believes he is ready to become a first-string goalie and he likely won't get that chance in Los Angeles, where the Kings have signed Jonathan Quick to a 10-year contract extension.
Bernier said he asked to be moved before the Feb. 27 trade deadline, but the Kings refused.
The native of Laval, Que., said he would prefer to play closer to home, adding that he anticipates a trade before training camps are scheduled to open in September.
The 23-year-old had a 5-6-2 record and 2.36 goals-against average in 16 games with the Stanley Cup-winning Kings last season. He didn't appear in the playoffs.
Bernier was drafted 11th overall by the Kings in 2006.

This is who I originally expected the Lightning to get, but then Lindback was all *plop* into our laps.

I am really not surprised to hear he has asked for a trade. A 10 year contract for Quick doesn't give Bernier a shot at a number one spot any time in the future. He says he wants to play closer to home, so maybe he'll end up in Toronto?
