Maple leafs sign defenceman rielly to entry-level contract

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Friday that the club has signed first-round draft pick Morgan Rielly to a three-year entry level contract.

The Maple Leafs selected Rielly fifth overall on June 22.

The six-foot, 190-pound defenceman missed most of the 2011-12 season with the WHL's Moose Jaw Warriors because a torn ACL, but still collected 18 points in 18 games.

Morgan Rielly looked very good in the Canad Russia series. He could create an awkward situation if he continues this stellar play in the preseason. Will he do what Gardiner did last year and force the Leafs to keep him up in the NHL or does he go back to the WHL?
