In the days leading up to the NHL lockout last week, virtually all the players who committed to play overseas were European and almost all of them Russian. But with the San Jose Sharks’ Joe Thornton and the New York Rangers’ Rick Nash reportedly signing to play for Davos in Switzerland yesterday on the first business day of the lockout, it raised some eyebrows among players across the league — including those of Bruins [team stats] alternate captain Patrice Bergeron.

Like most North American players, Bergeron wants to take a wait-and-see approach to the negotiations before jumping on a trans-Atlantic flight. But with the Thornton/Nash signings (only for the length of the lockout) perhaps signaling the start of the exodus, Bergeron finds himself thinking about it a little sooner than he may have wanted.
