A personnel update first. Coach John Hynes said center Zach Sill will miss five to six weeks with an upper-body injury suffered last night in Springfield.

The Penguins have plenty of guys who can play center who haven’t been in the early going — Riley Holzapfel, Philippe Dupuis and Brian Gibbons to name three — so depth isn’t an issue, but it’s still a pretty big loss for the Penguins. There were moments in tonight’s game where they definitely could have used a Sill energy shift.

That’s why you saw Tom Kuhnhackl and Dominik Uher called up from the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers this morning. Kuhnhackl and Uher both played tonight, making their AHL debuts, in for Sill and Adam Payerl. The Penguins still used 11 forwards and seven defensemen, with Dylan Reese recovered from his injury and in for Alex Grant.
