Jokerit - HIFK 01.09.2012
On a quick look I couldn't find a post about this and Finland's sport media has been absolutely boiling of this incident, so a quick peek almost two months back.
In the European Trophy tournament on August 31, HIFK played in their home arena against Jokerit. Jokerit won the game 4-3 on a shootout - in the third period (47.57) Jarkko Ruutu got a 5+20 for charging plus misconduct penalty. Ruutu's charging was related to the next game.
Next day, on Saturday Septemer 1st, Jokerit and HIFK played in Hartwall Areena, where major overkills appeared. First Ilari Melart (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilari_Melart) jumps on Jarkko Ruutu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jarkko_Ruutu), presumably because of what happened on yesterday's game - Melart gets a 5+20, Ruutu did not drop his gloves, so nothing for him.

Few hockey experts in Finland say, that Finnish hockey 'code' is all messed up - as when the NHL tried to remove fights, concussions just burst to a brand new level. Hockey players in Finland are frightened to drop the gloves because of the pre-season happenings. :( Can't say that here are lots of agitators, policers or fighters in the league, but it keeps the game so much cleaner when there's even a chance that you have to take the responsibility of what you've done.
In Europe there are not many leagues like SM-liiga - they say that Finnish league is more Northern American than e.g. Elitserien in Sweden or AL-Bank Ligaen in Denmark. In Finland they seem to think that fighting is part of the sport violence and does not belong to the game. It's a bit different in the NHL... :p
