The AHL will benefit in the coming week, adding more NHL talent to their already accomplished league. Los Angeles Kings General Manager, Dean Lombardi confirmed to Helene Elliot of the LA Times that goalie, Jonathan Quick will play for the Kings’ AHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs during the lockout.

Quick recently signed a ten year, 58 million dollar contract extension this summer following the Kings Stanley Cup run during the summer. He won the Conn Smythe trophy during that run, awarded to the most valuable player in the playoffs and is rarely awarded to goalies. During the postseason, Quick posted an outstanding .946 save percentage along with three shutouts during the Kings playoff journey.

This transaction was allowed due to his injury occurring prior to the lockout, therefore allowing Quick to play for Manchester. He will likely take over as the Monarchs starting goalie, helping mentor young AHL net-minder Martin Jones.
