For two seasons, when the game was on the line, the Tampa Bay Lightning thrived.
This season, they have wilted.
It's an inexplicable and vast difference for a team accustomed to coming up with big plays late in games to pull out victories. Tampa Bay was 48-10-19 the previous two seasons in games decided by one goal.
This season, in 11 games decided by a goal, Tampa Bay has a 1-9-1 record, with the only victory coming at Florida on Feb. 16. And it took a goal by Teddy Purcell with 10 seconds remaining to force overtime against the Panthers, or the Lightning would be winless in close games.
