Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby is out indefinitely after having surgery for a broken jaw, the team announced via Twitter on Sunday.

Penguins general manager Ray Shero said via Twitter that Crosby has no signs of a concussion but they will continue to monitor him for symptoms. Shero also said Crosby's jaw was not wired shut, which could be a good sign in terms of the length of his recovery.

Crosby was injured on his first shift against the New York Islanders on Saturday when defenseman Brooks Orpik fired a slap shot that changed direction and caught Crosby just under the visor.
