Just when it looked like it was all over, Adam Henrique scores and Ilya Kovalchuk scores in the empty net to extend the Stanley Cup Finals to game five. Saturday night the series will resume in New Jersey, and while it still seems highly unlikely the Devils will come all the way back, it no longer seems impossible. A home win on Saturday could really change the momentum of this series.
It was the Devils best game of the series and the push back was noticeable.
The AHL isn't over?
After a long break in the Calder Cup Finals the series resumes in Toronto for game three. Norfolk leads two games to none. The Marlies are missing leading scorer Matt Frattin, but will have veteran Mike Zigomanis back in the lineup.
CBC will broadcast the game in Canada starting at 7pm
AHL's top 25 under 25
Speaking of the AHL, it is a great league to keep an eye on to farm for your fantasy league. Brent Lemon has a fantastic read on how to find players in the AHL who could follow similar paths taken by players starring in the NHL today such as Claude Giroux, Jonathan Quick, Louie Eriksson, and James Neal.
One factor is the age of the player, and Lemon list the Top 25 scorers under 25 in his article. Read it, and take notes of the players on his list in order to be prepared for your fantasy hockey draft
Florida's Big Announcement
Well maybe not that big! It was not to announce the acquisition of Roberto Luongo (yet) but the Panthers have made an important move by resigning GM Dale Tallon. After the announcement Tallon commented on the status of player negotiations saying they have made offers to Kris Versteeg, and Scott Clemmensen already. They are also close to making offers on pending UFA's Jason Garrison, and Mikael Samuelsson. Tallon also commented that the plan is to give future started Jacob Markstrom one more season in the AHL. Plenty of fantasy owners will be frustrated to hear they need to wait longer. If the rumors about Luongo are true, Markstrom's fantasy value could plummet.
Summer Goalie Market
This summer there are several teams in dire need for a goalie, Tampa bay, Columbus, Toronto, and Chicago to name a few. There are also several goalies who have been rumored to be available as well. Roberto Luongo, Tim Thomas, Josh Harding to name a few. Eric Roberts writes at the Hockey Writers Should The Sabres Use Ryan Miller As Trade Bait?
Perhaps it is too soon to add Millers name to the list of available goalies, but last season was very disappointing for Buffalo and Miller was very disappointing in the first half. After Bruins Milan Lucic steam rolled Miller, the Sabres netminder was very outspoken about his teams lack of response. Miller may have worn out his welcome in Buffalo.
The Flyers off season free agent shopping may not go beyond resigning their own players. Jaromir Jagr is apparently close to resigning in Philadelphia and GM Paul Holmgren said he is confident the team can resign defender Matt Carle as well. Doing so would leave little available cap room to pursue any prominent UFA.
Heading to Free Agency
Mike Knuble is not ready to retire, but the Washington Capitals will not be offering him a new contract. Knuble will become a free agent July first and hope to sign with a new team as a 40 year old.
Marian Gaborik had his shoulder surgery on Wednesday. His recovery time will be five to six months and that means he will miss the start of the 2012/2013 season (if there is one). Missing up to the first month and all of training camp could have a significant impact on his fantasy production next season.
