The Washington Capitals have added another depth forward in Joey Crabb, who they signed to a one year contract worth $950,000.
Crabb had a career year with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season when he scored 11 goals and 26 points in 67 games. During his nine games in the AHL this season he scored seven goals and 15 points, which was a career high in points per game in any major hockey league for him.
Donít get too excited by that 1.67 points per game ratio as he was not signed to play on a scoring line. His role is to provide energy, grit and likely kill penalties. He will add some offense from the bottom six forwards.
In most hockey pools Crabb is a non-factor; however he can be an extremely valuable asset in deep keeper leagues, especially ones with salary caps. He has a very low cap hit, under a million.
Expect Crabb to push for a third line role and play alongside Brooks Laich and Jason Chimera. If he can land that third line spot count on 10-15 goals and 25-30 points, however if he ends up on the fourth line cut that expectation in half.
