    Day 11 – Edmonton Oilers

The Oilers have a solid young set of prospects coming up through the ranks, though with the full blown rebuilding mode in place it’s not likely players are going to stay prospects for long. Edmonton already has an embarrassment of riches on the roster currently with young guns like Taylor Hall, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Jordan Eberle, Magnus Paajarvi and Sam Gagner starting to make people stand up and take notice. There’s a ton of various defensive prospects in the system, which is the Edmonton roster’s greatest need, so players such as Justin Schultz, Oscar Klefbom and Martin Marincin should be jumping in soon to put up some solid fantasy numbers considering the high scoring forwards they’ll be feeding up front. The forward ranks are depleted, but that’s to be expected with so many having already cracked the main roster. It’s a matter of time before Edmonton, starts picking up more forwards in order to replenish their stock up front as players get older, move on, or get hurt. There’s some definite fantasy potential with the Oilers.

D - Martin Marincin (SVK) Regina Pats

    6’6” 206 lbs, 19 years

Marincin is a big kid, who has some good skating ability leading people to immediately think of Zdeno Chara, however he is no Chara. The big Slovak is a bit of a project in the making, but could yield some nice results down the line considering his size, skating and wicked point shot which could be dangerous on a future power play. There are times on the ice, where he’s struggled while adapting to the WHL while with the Prince George Cougars, but there are times when he flat out looked like a star, while playing in Regina. After the trade to the Pats, Marincin managed to put up 23 points in 28 games and looked like a potential steal for the Oilers.

    Potential: Offensive defenseman
    Projected Upside: 55 points
    ETA: 2015-16

LW - Teemu Hartikainen (FIN) Oklahoma City Barons

    6’1” 215 lbs, 21 years

This guy never stops going hard. He only has one speed all-out, all the time. He has good size and gets dirty along the way, going into the corners, hitting along the boards and camping out in front of the net. Late last season, Hartikainen got the call to the bigs and managed to parlay it into a nice little performance, which left rumblings that the team may have to trade someone in order to make a roster spot available to him. He’s already NHL ready and would work well playing with smaller faster players who need open ice, since his game would compliment their speed, as he got dirty to make things happen. This could be a pick with some solid fantasy value since he’ll likely be on the Oilers roster this season.

    Potential: Checking forward
    Projected Upside: 45 points
    ETA: 2012-13
