Leafs line combos and JVR at center
In the past week, we have learned that the Leafs will try newly acquired forward, James van riemsdyk, at center for the beginning of training camp. Here is what he had to say: "Getting that comfort (level) back with the position," van Riemsdyk said. "When you are used to something it is second-nature, so when you are out there not thinking and just playing, that is when you are at your best. Just be a matter of getting some reps in there and sure I will be fine."

Here are my potential lines for the Toronto Maple Leafs, if JVR works out at center:
    Lupul-Van Riemsdyk-Kessel
    Kulemin-Grabovski-Frattin
    Macarthur-Bozak-Connolly
    Lombardi-McClement/Steckel-Brown

With the rise of Frattin’s play in the Calder Cup playoffs, it forces the Leafs hand to free up a top-six spot, and potentially we could see one of Bozak, Connolly, Kulemin or Macarthur moved for a goaltending upgrade.

Looking at the CBA demands of the NHL Owners
A quick run-through of the demands of the NHL owners by Puck Daddy's, Greg Wyshynski
    1. Reduce players' hockey-related revenues to 46% from 57 %.
    2. 10 seasons in the NHL before being eligible for unrestricted free agency.
    3. Contracts limited to 5 years.
    4. No more salary arbitration.
    5. Entry-level contract are 5 years long instead of 3.

The remaining RFA's who will not be facing a hearing
Here’s a look at the restricted free agents that will not be facing an arbitration hearing in the next few weeks. In salary cap leagues, this could be crucial: Mike Green, Shea Weber, Evander Kane, Jakub Voracek, Dmitry Kulikov, Michael Del Zotto, Ryan O’Reilly, Tyler Ennis, PK Subban and Jamie Benn. Here is a list of all of the RFA's by Capgeek.

A look at what NHL goons bring to the table when not using their fists
Taking a gander at what NHL goons contribute statistically. The highest corsi was held by Ryan Reeves, Kyle Clifford and Chris Neil.

    Seven spots for six Stars?
The Stars have seven players capable of top-six duties, but will be ‘lucky’ to see Derek Roy out until November with offseason shoulder surgery. Unless Ryder gets off to a slow start, the team will have a sixty-point player playing on the third line with players like Fiddler, Glennie, Nystrom, Vincour, etc. Who will be the player to take the biggest hit in terms of offense this upcoming season for the Stars in Dallas?

What are Sharks prospects capable of in the NHL?
Fear The Fin looks at Sharks prospects using NHL Equivalency developed by Behindthenet: “The theory behind it is essentially that players in major junior, collegiate and European leagues can usually expect to only retain a certain amount of their offense when taking their talents to the NHL. By comparing the NHL production of players who made the jump to their totals the previous season, Gabe was able to discover the translation rate for points per game between the NHL and most of its feeder leagues.” Travis Oleksuk (43.2), Tomas Hertl (40.0) and Matthew Nieto (38.1) have the highest NHLE P from the past season.

    The return of the Dominator
Rumours are growing involving the return of Dominik Hasek. To put that into perspective, Hasek was in the same draft as Steve Yzerman, Pat LaFontaine, John Maclean, Tom Barrasso, Cam Neely, Russ Courtnall, Jeff Beukeboom, Claude Lemieux, Peter Zezel, Stu Grimson, Daren Puppa, Bob Essensa, Esa Tikkanen, Garry Galley, Kevin Stevens and Rick Tocchet. How fun would it be to see all of those guys back?

If we do in fact see a lockout and it were to end in January, do second half performers start up right away?

    Having some fun
Teemu is back, because he’s not ready to do any paper work just yet:

It will be interesting to see how JVR does now that he could be getting Top Six minutes and potentially first line minutes all season long.
