    NEWS FROM AROUND THE LEAGUE
According the majority of pundits Halifax Mooseheads phenom Nathan MacKinnon starts the season as the top ranked prospect for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft in New Jersey. MacKinnon topped Bob McKenzie’s TSN prospect list as well as being featured as the top prospect in the NHL Central Scouting Bureau’s September rankings.

Seven QMJHL forwards and one goaltender were ranked as “A” level prospects on the inaugural NHL Central Scouting Bureau’s 2013 NHL Draft prospects list. “A” level prospects are supposedly players who should go in the first two rounds of the draft. Zach Fucale of Halifax is the only goaltender in North America listed as a first two round pick, while forwards William Carrier of Cape Breton, Anthony Duclair and Adam Erne of Quebec, Nathan MacKinnon and Jonathan Drouin of Halifax, Frederick Gauthier of Rimouski and Anthony Mantha of Val d’Or were considered “A” level prospects.

The Saint John Sea Dogs added a new piece to the puzzle as they signed Springfield Pics defenceman Steven Duda to their roster. Duda is a 6’4” 195 lbs. bruising blueliner with a good skill set, who had previously been playing in the Eastern Junior Hockey League.

The Quebec Remparts were the top team in the BMO CHL MasterCard Top 10 Rankings released on Oct. 3. The Remparts started the season with a 5-0-0-0 record to take the early lead in the CHL rankings. The Remparts were joined in the rankings by the Blainville-Broisband Armada at a 5th overall with a 3-0-0-1 record and the Halifax Mooseheads at 7th overall with a 4-1-0-0 record. The Saint John Sea Dogs earned an honourable mention with their 4-1-0-0 record to start the season.

Saint John Sea Dogs defenceman Sebastian Auger was named the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending Sept. 30 after posting a 3-0-0-0 record with a GAA of 1.33 and a save percentage of .960.

Rouyn-Noranda’s Jean-Sebastien Dea was named the CHL player of the week for the week ending Sept. 30, after scoring eight points in three games, including six goals and two assists. Dea is available for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
