    NEWS FROM AROUND THE LEAGUE
Plymouth Whalers head coach Mike Vellucci got his 400th OHL win this week after his squad defeated the Niagara Ice Dogs 6-3 last Saturday. Vellucci is now the winningest coach in Whalers history and ranks fourth among active OHL coaches in wins behind Belleville’s George Burnett (519), Brampton’s Stan Butler (506) and London’s Dale Hunter (455).

The Peterborough Petes fired general manager Dave Reid last week after a tumultuous few years at the helm of the historic franchise. Though very successful at the draft table for the Petes, many feel it was his history of less than stellar return in trades, which sealed his fate. Petes head coach Mike Pelino and director of player personal Mike Oke will split the hockey operations responsibilities in the interim, while business operations will be overseen by Petes president Jim Devlin. Could this see the team’s switch in draft philosophy away from Eastern Ontario kids, which has been their trend over the past five years?

The league mourns the loss of longtime Sudbury Wolves announcer Berk Keanev. Keanev was 90 years old, and was the team’s announcer for all 40 years of the team’s OHL existence. The team held a moment of silence in his honour prior to the start of the Wolves game against the Saginaw Spirit on Oct. 12.

The Oshawa Generals are the highest Ranked team in the Week 4 BMO CHL MasterCard Top 10 Rankings released Oct. 10. The Generals have a 6-1-0-0 record to start the season and are joined in the top 10 by the London Knights at seventh overall with a record of 4-2-0-0 and the Owen Sound Attack at 10th with a record of 5-1-0-1. The Barrie Colts received an honourable mention with a 5-2-0-0 record to start the season.
