    Brian Burke and the Toronto Maple Leaf management team has done it again, perhaps pulling off the best trade in their tenure at the helm of MLSE. Burke and his team successfully poached Cody Franson away from the Nashville Predators along with Matt Lombardi for Brett Lebda and Robert Slaney

    With all due respect to Lebda and Slaney the Leafs gave up nothing in this deal! Lebda was arguably the worst player on the Leafs roster last season and Slaney will be lucky to ever see a game in the NHL.

    At the NHL Draft today when the Winnipeg GM Claude Noel will step to the podium and announce more than the seventh overall pick. Noel will announce the new team name. No doubt the player they choose with the seventh pick will have the honor of unavailing the new team logo as he becomes the first player to don their new jersey.

    That may not be the only splash Winnipeg makes at tonight's draft! A credible sources that indicated Philadelphia may be shopping Mike Richards and Jeff Carter and that they would be targeting star UFA goalie Ilya Bryzgalov is also suggesting the team is seeking a star young defender, and that that player is Zach Bogosian.

    Toronto Maple Leaf GM Brian Burke has been clear about this summers mandate. Acquire a number one center. Plenty of names have been rumored as targets from Jeff Carter, Stephen Weiss, Paul Stastny and to the most popular Brad Richards. Richards is a UFA and would be the perfect fit. However, because he is a free agent he has to choose to sign with the Leafs and the common belief is that he has no desire to play in Toronto. That leaves Burke looking to trade. Philadelphia Flyers traded for the negotiation rights of goalie Ilya Bryzgalov which has sparked Carter trade talks to clear the required cap space.
