After a four game winning streak to start the 2010-11 season, the Toronto Maple Leafs struggles resumed and the losses mounted. Captain Dion Phaneuf was lost to a leg injury for sixteen games and didn’t look right when he returned.

The goaltending was a concern as both J.S. Giguere and Jonas Gustavsson struggled to find consistency. Things turned around for the Leafs down the stretch however. Rookie James Reimer played exceptionally well and took over as the teams starting goalie.

Tomas Kaberle was finally traded after much rumor and distraction in a terrific deal. Immediately after Kaberle's departure Captain Phaneuf took control of the team and began to dominate play as he did in his early years with the Calgary Flames.

The 2010-2011 season began full of hope for the Ottawa Senators. Feeling confident that previous inadequacies were addressed with the addition of Sergei Gonchar on the back end and a healthy Pascal Leclaire.

All hope quickly faded due to injuries and substandard goaltending and GM Brian Murry began a fire sale, moving out Mike Fisher, Chris Kelly, Alex Kovalev, Brian Elliot, and Chris Campoli.

Filling the roster out for the final part of the season the Sen's gave auditions to youngsters Bobby Butler, Eric Condra, Colin Greening and NCAA free agent signing Stephane Da Costa.

In the off Season, Murray had his contract surprisingly renewed, and not too surprisingly head coach Cory Clouston was replaced with Paul MacLean.

After a strong post season in 09/10 highlighted by the arrival of P.K. Subban the 10/11 season began with a lot of hope for a return to the post season and more success. Those hopes were slightly derailed after game seven when star defender Andrei Markov went down with a season ending knee injury for the second straight year!

Montreal lost another key defender for the year when Josh Gorges went down with a knee injury as well. The injuries forced GM Pierre Gauthier to get some help and he added James Wisniewski. Wisniewski filled the gap well but left via free agency this summer.

Last season was the coming out party for starting goalie Carey Price as he helped carry the team through injuries by posting impressive 38 wins, 2.35 GAA, and .923 save % in 72 games.

The Edmonton Oilers began the 2010/2011 season in full rebuild, but with a lot of excitement surrounding the young team with stars Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle and Magnus Paajarvi.

Optimism quickly changed to realism and the Oilers suffered a six game losing streak in October and another in November. They were never able to recover.

It went from bad to worse after the team lost it’s number one defenseman Ryan Whitney to ankle surgery in December and first liners Ales Hemsky and Shawn Horcoff each only managed to stay healthy for 47 games.

2010-2011 was another disappointing season for the Flames. Former GM Darryl Sutter managed this team with a “win now” mentality but the team failed to qualify for the post season yet again. As a result, Sutter stepped down as GM and was replaced by former Tampa Bay lightning GM Jay Feaster.

Feaster inherited a team in a disastrous cap management situation. Six players have no movement clauses and three have no-trade clauses. Even if Feaster wanted to rebuild his hands are tied.

Feaster also inherited an empty prospect cupboard as THN ranked the Flames third last in the league for prospect depth in the 2011 future watch guide.
