Week 14 in the NHL schedule is an interesting one. First we have the Winter Classic between the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers. The Rangers have won both games this season against the Flyers and they have been very physical games. Expect a great game.

There are six teams that only play two games this week while there are six teams that play four games this week. Make sure you look at your roster this week, if you have the ability to sign free agents and you roster is loaded with players who are only playing twice this week you may want to consider signing a player or two who play more games.

If you are in a head-to-head pool check out your opponentís roster to see how many potential games they may have. You donít want to be caught playing against an opponent who has double the games you do. This is the week you want to plan ahead.

The season is over a third of the way complete and there are plenty of surprise in the standings and stats.

The Chicago Blackhawks are the current leader in overall standings but what is most surprising is that the Florida Panthers and Minnesota Wild are leading their divisions. Both teams had a major overhaul this off-season and no one could have predicted their starts. To no oneís surprise though despite a strong start the Toronto Maple Leafs are dropping in the standings.

Henrik Sedin is tied for second overall in points with 40, which is no surprise. Claude Giroux is leading the NHL in scoring, which was not a stretch at the start of the season but still I would be curious to know how many people who would have wagered that Giroux would be leading. Phil Kessel is tied for second in points and tied for goal lead, which is a huge surprise but much like the Leafs he will faded and drop down the ranks.

The biggest surprise of them all is that Brian Elliott is leading the NHL in GAA, SV% and shutouts. Elliott has a goals against average of 1.52, a save percentage of 0.944 and four shutouts.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! There are only games till Friday this week. The only team to avoid dressing this week would be the Columbus Blue Jackets as they only play once, while every other team plays two or three times.

Concussions continue to mount up on the leagues best players as leading scorer Claude Giroux and leading goal scorer Milan Michalek are both out indefinitely with concussion symptoms. The Philadelphia Flyers announced that Chris Pronger is out for the season and playoffs. At his age I would bet that he will likely consider retirement. Lets hope this run of concussion is over.
