    NHL Trade Rumors

The TSN hockey insiders Bob McKenzie, Darren Dreger and Pierre LeBrun addressed trade rumors on TSN. Some points of interest were speculation on Goalies. Lebrun said Bruins goalie Tim Thomas is contemplating taking a year off. There was also a report that he moved his family to Colorado. Hockey USA is based out of Colorado and it's believed he plans to be involved there after his career. Leafs GM Brian Burke is the USA GM which could make for a connection to Thomas. It would be difficult for Bruins to trade Thomas to Toronto.
Interesting to note that if Thomas does sit out, he will count against the cap. Perhaps he wants a trade and this is his leverage?

Lebrun also commented on Tomas Vokun suggesting he would be the best fit for Toronto, and believes that Luongo is a legit option as well. Dreger also said not to rule out the possibility of Roberto Luongo returning to Vancouver if a deal cant be found.

Bob McKenzie addressed the Justin Schultz situation and the possibility of a team trading to acquire his rights prior to July first. The front runners for Schultz appear to be Vancouver, Edmonton, and Toronto. McKenzie said via twitter "It's my understanding ANA has til 5 pm ET on Sunday June 24 to sign prospect Justin Schultz. If not, he's UFA then, able to sign on July 1."

    Dreger Tweeted:
"Flames hire coach and prepare for heavy lifting in days ahead. Iginla trade rumours will heat up. Bouwmeester on the block?"

Eric Francis was asked on Twitter about the Flames trading goalie Miikka Kiprusoff:
"Chances are slim at best. He masks so many problems RT @sniperscup: @ericfrancis what are the chances Kipper is dealt this off season?"

From Dennis Bernstein @DennisTFP "Pierre Maguire on WFAN - Pittsburgh Chicago Detroit most likely for Parise if leaves NJ. Would be shocked if Zach goes across Hudson to NYR"

    Lidstrom Retires
The day Red Wings GM Ken Holland and fantasy owners have been dreaded arrived Thursday when Niklas Lidstrom announced his retirement. Andrew Johnson has two great posts on Hockey Writers: The End Of An Era: Nicklas Lidstrom Announces Retirement. Here is a compilation of Twitter comments to see how Players React to Nicklas Lidstromís Retirement

    Fantasy Watch
A player who may be worthy of extra consideration in your fantasy hockey draft this summer is St. Louis Blues Ian Cole The Blues have three defensemen who are about to become UFA's in Barret Jackman, Kent Huskins, and Carlo Colaiacovo. Cole was selected 18th overall in the first round of the 2007 draft. he has all-around defenseman potential and the ability to play second powerplay unit behind Alex Pietrangelo and Kevin Shattenkirk. In a league that counts hits, blocked shots and penalty minutes, Cole's fantasy value increases. Cole will be a regular on the Blues top four next season.

Bob Hartley is now the Flames new head Coach. That leaves Michel Therrian, Marc Crawford and Patrick Roy as the front runners. The Flames now have a relatively new GM and a brand new Head Coach. If this leadership group wants to do a rebuild, now is the time. They have a few years before expectations will demand results. If they stand pat with current roster or add to existing roster and fail again to make the playoffs or advance deep it will be too late to rebuild. They will be accountable and new leadership will be brought in to manage the rebuild. We shall quickly see which direction this group will choose.

The Edmonton Oilers may be close to hiring former Flames Brent Sutter as their new head Coach. Sutter has a tremendous winning reputation with young players from his time in the WHL and Team Canada at the World Junior. Sutter was also the Coach of Team Canada at the World Championship and had a hands on sneak peek at top ranked draft eligible defenseman Ryan Murray
The Oilers hold the first overall pick in the draft. Nail Yakupov is ranked number one by many, but in several mock drafts "experts" have the Oilers selecting Murray, or possibly trading down to draft Murray. The draft is June 22 and I will be watching to see what happens!
