Bobby Clarke Trophy (Most Valuable Player)
Jakub Voracek

Jakub Voracek was selected by a panel of sportswriters and sportscasters as the Flyers team MVP.

This come after he completed 48-game season that was on par with the previous full-length seasons in his career. Voracek enters tonight’s game with a career-high 21 goals, along with 24 assists, for 45 points.

The 21 goals are a career high, besting the 18 he scored last year. Voracek accrued his 18 goals in a total of 78 games last year, but this year needed only 42 games to reach that point.

As the Flyers begin to pack their bags Sunday to scatter around the world for what will be a long summer, a few will need to keep their skates sharp.

Five Flyers players have committed to represent their countries in the upcoming World Championships in Finland and Sweden. The tournament runs May 3-19 - with the puck dropping in just a matter of four days.

Claude Giroux, Wayne Simmonds, Matt Read and Luke Schenn have all said “yes” to an invitation from Team Canada general manager Steve Yzerman. Only Schenn (2009 silver medal in Switzerland) has participated in the tournament before; Giroux and Read both won a world junior gold medal as teammates in 2008. Read has never worn a Team Canada sweater.

The Philadelphia Flyers gave their fans something to smile about in their final home game of a disappointing season.

Rookie defenseman Oliver Lauridsen scored with 6:31 remaining in regulation Thursday and the Flyers beat the New York Islanders 2-1 at Wells Fargo Center.

Lauridsen, one of several newcomers on the injury-plagued Philadelphia blue line, stepped into a slap shot at the left point and beat goaltender Kevin Poulin after a couple of dominant shifts by the Flyers kept the Islanders pinned in their zone.
