Blues re-sign forward Chris Stewart
The Blues re-signed forward Chris Stewart to a contract extension today.
The club and Stewart, who would have become a restricted free-agent July 1, agreed to a one-year, $3 million deal.
Stewart, 24, was wrapping up a two-year, $5.75 million contract that he signed with the Colorado Avalanche. The right winger made $3.25 million with the Blues in 2011-12, so it's a pay cut in actual money from last season, but it's a bump up from the average of his expiring contract ($2.875 million).
Stewart is coming off a disappointing 15-goal, 30-point season. After being acquired in February 2011, in a deal that sent defenseman Erik Johnson to Colorado, Stewart had 15 goals and 23 points in 26 games with the Blues.
That production finished off his second consecutive 28-goal season and led to projections that he could be a 35-40 goal-scorer for the Blues, but it never materialized.
