I have to say that I'm eating my words when it comes to Fayne. I didn't think he would be able to repeat what he did last season and I thought he was a flash in the pan. I'm not saying he is going to be our savior, but he could be a solid pairing guy for us in the future that we don't have to break the bank for.
To me, the biggest part of this season is convincing Parise he want to stay. I don't think they have the necessary tools to make a serious playoff run. Yeah, they could get hot at the right time but I don't really see it happening. I think it is important to build our team around Parise, Kovalchuk, Zajac, Henrique, Tedenby, Josefson, and Larsson. This is our future. I see us being competitive in a couple of years when our young players start to get to their prime while players like Parise, Kovalchuk, and Zajac are still in theirs. Then we still have players like Elias, Volchenkov, Greene and even Tallinder that could be solid contributors in the future.
The biggest question mark in the time period I'm talking about will be in net. Will we have someone that will be able to play well enough to let everyone do their thing? Lou has his hands full and I really hope he makes the right moves.

Fayne has been nothing short of phenomenal in my opinion.
Completely agree. I don't want to know where we would be right now without him. I just don't think he will make it past the second pairing unless he develops some serious chemistry with Larsson. With both of them playing on the right side I don't see it happening, but there is nothing wrong with a future on the second pairing. I love how he gets his shot through. If only our forwards knew how to screen a goalie...

2nd pairing is already more than I expected. If he keeps playing like that, I`ll be very satisfied and confident about our future defense.
