Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur is a rock in life’s toughest times

I know we usually don't have many threads here just for individual news article's, but this article on Marty and his ties to his father and his family the last several weeks is great.

Back up two weeks: The text message came a few hours before New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur skated onto Madison Square Garden ice Feb. 7 to face the New York Rangers.

“Our father has a tumour on his brain,” Dénis Brodeur Jr. texted.

The father, who had been suffering bouts of dizziness, had a CT scan on Feb. 6. The results came back the following afternoon. It was cancer.

Dénis Jr. won’t often disturb his brother’s NHL game-day focus, which is an almost airtight bubble of concentration. But there was no postponing this.

Martin digested the news, then strapped on his equipment and stopped 30 Rangers shots in a 1-0 New Jersey victory.

Only one thing bugs me about this:

Paul Wight waits two hours before a HUGE game against his brother's biggest rival, and that's when he decides to text him? Come on, dude, you gotta be smarter than that. I mean, I guess it worked, and Marty pitched an effin' shutout but hot damn, why not wait until after? What are you, Melanie and telling him who you're going out with before the playoff games in 03?

Would I want to know right away, or, wait an extra 4.5 hours when there's nothing Martin can do about it.

For some people work is there form of escapism.

I'm sure for Marty, strapping on those pads is his safe place from anything that might be wrong with the world.

It may even been why he is playing better.

Marty always seems to produce despite what his personal life throws at him.

Didn't Melanie divorce him and text him emotional messages during the playoffs in 2003?

Yeah, she'd text him that she was going out for dinner with one of his best friends and **** like that. She doesn't take enough **** for what she did. As I understand it, she cheated first. Either way, Genevieve is a HUGE upgrade, compared to Melanie who is just HUGE.

I was surprised what Jaime posted about on this topic.

As far as I understood it they were mutually separated despite not being legally divorced. Once a couple agrees to separation any extra-marital relationships are fair game as I have been taught.
