No. 1 Zach Parise

Team: New Jersey Devils
Position: Left wing
The lowdown: The shining gem of the 2012 free agent class, Parise is not only skilled, but a real character guy who could end up being your captain. Not big at 5-11, 195, he is still sturdy and consistent. Missed three games in his first five seasons before tearing a ligament in his knee in 2010-11. He missed most of 2010-11, but bounced back last season with 69 points (31G, 38A) in 82 games. Heís a left-handed left wing, so thatís an area of depth for the Stars, but they will juggle to get this kind of player in the lineup. He made $6 million last season, and will be looking to hit a homerun in free agency. Brad Richardís 9-year, $60 million deal might be a comparable. Teams such as Pittsburgh and Detroit could be in on the bidding, so the Stars are not seen as one of the favorites in this contest.
