Team: Philadelphia Flyers
The lowdown: Another defenseman who falls into the category of “too much like Alex Goligoski.” However, Carle would likely be a lot cheaper than Ryan Suter. Carle is an interesting player, in that he has been wonderful in Philadelphia while playing with a pretty high-end partner. Even without Chris Pronger last season, he had 38 points (4G, 34A), and looked very solid. He’s 27, he made $3.8 million last season, so what’s the problem? Well, when last the Stars saw Carle on a regular basis, he played for the Sharks and was terrible. In fact, many Sharks fans thought he was a key in a playoff loss to the Stars in 2008, and he was traded to the Lightning that summer. Is he mature now and ready to step up, or at 6-0, 205, is he more of the same that the Stars will get from Goligoski, Trevor Daley and Philip Larsen?
