The Blues had a strong desire to bring Jamie Langenbrunner back next season, but at a reasonable rate. While the team waited for Langenbrunner's answer, general manager Doug Armstrong worked on a trade, clearing a potential logjam of third- and fourth-line forwards.
In corresponding steps Tuesday, the Blues re-signed Langenbrunner to a one-year contract extension and traded B.J. Crombeen to Tampa Bay.
"Bringing Jamie back was something that we looked to do since the season ended," Armstrong said. "Jamie came in (last season) and his work ethic and his professionalism and his ability to help a group trying to push to a new level was instrumental in our season, and we think he'll be a real good piece of the puzzle moving forward next season."
