The Winnipeg Jets have issued a statement that suggests reports of goalie Ondrej Pavelec’s drunken driving incident is news to them.
The Jets said today they are looking into the reports.
“At this time True North Sports & Entertainment and the Winnipeg Jets... are aware of various, yet still inconsistent, internet reports pertaining to Ondrej Pavelec,” Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff said in the statement. “We, as an organization, are attempting to gather more information and until such time as we are comfortable and have a full understanding of the situation, we will not be issuing any further comment.”
The Jets No. 1 goalie, signed last month to a five-year contract worth nearly $20 million, was charged with driving under the influence after crashing his car in his native Czech Republic, according to Czech media outlet Nova Sport.
Pavelec is said to have rear-ended another vehicle while driving his BMW M6, May 26.
