Gutsy forward Alex Picard has been a fan favorite everywhere he's played in the AHL, and that includes a long stretch with the Syracuse Crunch.
But he's taking a much different turn in his career now, signing to play in Switzerland next season. He said he got a handful of two-way offers as a free agent this summer, but coming off a year in which he was the playoff MVP for Calder Cup champ Norfolk, he was hoping for a one-way deal.
"For me, I thought by winning the Calder Cup, by winning the MVP, I was going to get more offers,'' he said. "Sometimes it's hard to understand. I had a lot of promises in the past, saying, OK, we're going to play you. Sometimes you get tired of promises.''
