    ...But the drafts since 2009 have seen Cam Fowler and Devante Smith-Pelly become regulars for the Ducks, Kyle Palmieri wade into the NHL waters and Peter Holland, Sami Vatanen and Emerson Etem put themselves into pushing for jobs this season.

    More recent picks such as Max Friberg, John Gibson and Rickard Rakell are becoming quality prospects for the Ducks. William Karlsson may have to be added to that list.

    Karlsson, 19, just finished an impressive performance while playing for Sweden at Team USA’s national junior evaluation camp, which included a hat trick in an 8-2 victory over Finland. The Ducks selected the center in the latter part of the second round last year.

    Ducks prospect Karlsson stars in Sweden's win

    A year ago, William Karlsson made Sweden's team for the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship as a fourth-line player who wasn't expected to see a lot of ice time.

    He had had a goal and an assist in six games, and by the time Sweden had won the gold medal, he was playing on the second line and was a key contributor to the team's championship.

    Karlsson, a 2011 second-round pick of the Anaheim Ducks, kept that strong play going through the second half of his season in Sweden, and it carried into Sweden's game against Finland on Tuesday at Herb Brooks Arena -- he had a hat trick in an 8-2 win.
