James Reimer was gripping a pitching wedge in his hands as he walked over to a handful of reporters at a charity event at Rattlesnake Point Golf Club. Before anyone could ask him anything, he smiled and issued a playful warning: “This is in case I get some questions I don’t like.”

Given the circumstances, that seemed like a given. And Reimer knew it.

The Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender would be the first to admit that he and the team had a “crappy season” last year. And so, while the big question looming over the NHL right now is whether a labour stoppage will prevent the season from starting on time, the uncertainty for the Leafs does not end there.
