Admirals Rebound From Tough Loss With A Shut-Out Over IceCaps

The Norfolk Admirals end their road trip to St. John's, Newfoundland on Sunday with a shutout victory of the IceCaps. Saturday night's play was questionable on both offense and defense, but the team seemed to turn it around today.

The Ads outshout the IceCaps 12-10 in the first two periods. Unfortunately, the third period is one of the nightmares I seem to keep having with this team. The team was out-shot 18-2. Ya, that is not a typo. They definitely turtled in the third and it seems to be a reoccurring thing. Goaltender Igor Bobkov stepped up this game and I hope he continues to several more times this season. After two rocky starts, it seems like Bobkov worked out his couple of flaws. If he keeps it up, he will definitely be a top 10 goalie in the league.

The only goals scored in the game came in the second period. Patrick Maroon scored 11:33 into the frame with Devante Smith-Pelly racking up his 5th assist of the season, and newly signed try out player, Ryan Parent, getting his first as an Ad. The second goal of the night goes to John Mitchell with 11 seconds left in the second. Troy Bodie keeps his decent play going with the only helper on the goal.

Bobkov Comes Up Big as Admirals Shut Out IceCaps

Rookie goaltender Igor Bobkov stopped all 38 shots he faced for his first career AHL shutout as the Norfolk Admirals (5-1-0-0) defeated the St. John’s IceCaps (4-4-0-0), 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at MileOne Centre. Next up for the Admirals is a pair of games against the Binghamton Senators at Scope on Friday and Saturday nights.

Patrick Maroon and John Mitchell scored for the Admirals, who were out-shot, 38-27. Norfolk killed all six St. John’s power plays in the game.

All of the game’s scoring came in the second period. The Admirals took a 1-0 lead midway through the stanza. Defenseman Ryan Parent, who had signed with the Admirals earlier in the week and was making his Norfolk debut, sent a shot from the left faceoff circle that IceCaps goaltender Eddie Pasquale stopped. However, Maroon found the rebound and put it past the goaltender at 11:33 for his fourth goal of the season.
