The Trenton Titans split a home pair against North Division foe Toledo over the weekend, winning Friday by a 4-1 count, then losing on the back-end Saturday, 5-1. The outcome was eerily similar to last year in December when the Walleye came to Trenton for a pair. Trenton took the opener, then lost the second game by an identical 5-1 score.
In Game One both teams played even over the first 40 minutes. Luke Pither opened the scoring with his second of the year at 9:47 of the first. Former Titans captain Randy Rowe tied the score with a hard fought goal in front of goalie Scott Wedgewood, 3:47 into the second.
Three unanswered goals in the third took care of business for Trenton. Chris McKelvey – just sent to the Titans by Albany (AHL) - scored his first of the season just 20 seconds into the frame. Ryan Grimshaw (1) scored eight minutes later and Jason Akeson (2) five minutes after that to put the game away. Wedgewood seemed to do nothing but make one spectacular save after another, stopping 25 shots to get his fourth win already this year.
