The Syracuse Crunch defeated East Division rivals the Binghamton Senators 5-3 Wednesday at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
The Crunch took a commanding 3-0 lead but the Senators fought back to make it a one-goal game halfway through the third period. The Crunch hung on and added an empty net goal in the final minute of play to improve their overall record to 18-7-1-3 and bring their road record to 12-3-0-2.
Mark Barberio opened the scoring with a five-on-three power-play goal with 1:06 to play in the opening frame. Barberioís low shot from the point beat Binghamton Senators goaltender Ben Bishop for the defensemanís fifth goal of the season with assists from Cory Conacher and Brett Connolly.
