The Stars devoted the final period of the combined practice Tuesday to the power play, which had league lows in goals (33) and success rate (13.5 percent) last season. The results, at this early stage, were predictable.
In a 22-minute period, the Stars scored one power-play goal when Brenden Morrow tapped in a chance set up by Jaromir Jagr. The power-play groups also allowed a short-handed goal by winger Colton Sceviour of the Texas Stars.
Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said it was an “understatement” to say he devoted a significant amount of time in the off-season to fixing the power play. He brought in assistant coach Curt Fraser to handle the power play.
