The Ducks put defenseman Sami Vatanen on injured reserve Friday in order to get their roster down to the 23-player maximum before the NHL deadline ahead of their season opener against the Vancouver Canucks.

It means that forward Rickard Rakell has made the Ducks and could possibly play in his first NHL game. Winger Kyle Palmieri should be in the lineup while the club will likely decide between Rakell, Matt Beleskey, Peter Holland, Brad Staubitz and Devante Smith-Pelly for its fourth line against the Canucks.

Defenseman Hampus Lindholm, who is recovering from a concussion, did not skate after taking part in Thursday’s practice but Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said that he has not suffered a setback. Lindholm suffered his second concussion in a month-long span during an exhibition game against Canada while playing for Sweden.
