    In the grand history of Outdoor and Winter Classics, Sunday’s event falls somewhere in the categories of understated, classy*, and chilly. It’s the only outdoor game on the docket this year, and Hershey put on a good show despite being overshadowed by the return of the NHL. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins may have stolen the game with a 2-1 finish 1:19 into the extra frame, but both teams put in a respectable showing for the 17,000+ fans in attendance.

    Penguins Claim OT Win over Bears in AHL Outdoor Classic

    The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins rallied for a 2-1 overtime victory over the Hershey Bears at the 2013 Capital BlueCross AHL Outdoor Classic as Paul Thompson’s netted the game-winner at 1:19 of the extra session.

    A scoreless tie would remain until 4:20 was left on the clock in the second period. Jon DiSalvatore forced a puck deep into the Penguins zone, where Jeff Taffe hit Tomas Kundratek in the high slot for a one-timer past Jeff Zatkoff.

    Riley Holzapfel knotted the contest up at one in the third with 12:13 remaining. Thompson flipped the puck from near boards to an open area and Holzapfel caught up to it before unleashing a slapshot from the left circle that beat Dany Sabourin to the short side.
