After a remarkably dangerous and scary accidental hit, Darroll Powe has been diagnosed with a concussion and was placed on the IR today by the New York Rangers. The team also announced they have recaled forward Brandon Masinter, who has 11 points in 14 games with the Connecticut Whale.
This, of course, leaves the Rangers with two options to replace the injured Powe. Chris Kreider, who was called up in case Rick Nash couldn't play on Sunday, and the recently recalled Mashinter. Both players were participating at Monday's skate.
The Rangers do need to be careful with how they handle this situation. Kreider was sent down, only to be called back up a day later as an emergency replacement for Nash but then ended up sitting in the press box anyway. And while there's nothing the team could have done in that situation, I don't think it makes much sense to keep him up with the big club without intending to have him play on Tuesday. If the team is planning on having Mashinter play in Powe's place, then they need to send Kreider back down so he can get some seasoning.
