The Philadelphia Flyers announced Friday that the team has signed free-agent goaltender Ray Emery to a one-year, $1.65 million contract.

The signing marks a return to Philadelphia for Emery, who played 29 games for the team during the 2009-10 season. His season was ended in February due to a career-threatening hip injury.

The Flyers, who used a compliance buy out on goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov, will use Emery in tandem with Steve Mason, who was acquired by the Flyers from the Columbus Blue Jackets in April
