Russian U20 national team coach Mikhail Varnakov named 29 candidates for the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship, and received one more as the Buffalo Sabres will loan forward Mikhail Grigorenko for the tournament.

Grigorenko is one of two Russian U20 players currently competing in the National Hockey League, with Dallas’ Valeri Nichushkin being the other.

The 19-year-old, who will play his third World Junior Championship after helping Russia win silver in 2012 and bronze in 2013 on home ice in Ufa, was Buffalo’s first-round draft pick in 2012 and joined the Sabres during the 2012/2013 season. In 43 NHL games he scored three goals and picked five assists.[backPid]=955&cHash=1a98bba822
